Top scoring Irish striker in top two divisions!!!! Trap get your bleedin' finger out!
He's defiitely more worthy of inclusion than Andy Keogh

Wonderful assist by Connolly for Southampton's first today, one two with Lambert who finished it but Connolly was surrounded by three guys still managed to find him.
He's back! Steps off the bench to make it 3-0 to Saints
Finally got around to watching McCarthy's Park (thanks EastTerracer) and saw this which I was sure you would all enjoy

twas indeed! any link for his latest goal?
If this bloke ever gets called up again, the Worm will need to be acknowledged. Through thick and thin he has remained loyal to young David!
Connolly was always "game as a pebble" as Johnny Giles might say, tried hard etc etc but I developed a grudging and irrational dislike of him since his sending off against Belgium in '97. Just sayin, like.
I hold a greater grudge against the Austrian referee that night, who gave what was a blatant Irish throw in to the Belgians. Whilst the Irish remonstrated, the Belgians took the throw quickly and caught us cold, leading to the Luc Nilis goal that ended our hopes of a third world cup in a row.
I know you will all be interested to know that since Southampton lost Connolly to a groin injury they have two wins, two losses (both of which they failed to score in), and a draw. Keep in mind that prior to his injury they had only lost two matches all season and had scored in every match. They had also won every home match when he was fit and their draw came today at home.
A fallout with David Villa in camp nou and Connolly is excluded "injured" a couple of weeks before the transfer window opens? Hardly all a coincidence!
Goal Connolly!!!! Very much deserved, whipped cross comes in from the right, takes a touch off a Soton player in the box, Connolly quickest to react as he pounces and provides the finish from 6 yards out. 2-0.
Also had a large hand in the first goal, nice run down the right from Martin(?)*** pulls its back, finds Connolly who smashes is goalwards , saved by the keeper's foot (really probably should've scored), Guly pounces on the rebound to put Southampton 1-0
Oh yes, and a funny little bit about the game that I think sums up Connolly's career. Forest fans have started booing Connolly whenever he touches it (before his goal). You may be thinking, oh he played for Notts County? No. He wound them up? No. His only crime was getting clattered in the side of the head with a flying elbow from Luke Chambers who was then red carded...Connolly didn't even pull a Ronaldo or anything.
Every time he scores, I imagine worm spontaneously screaming "Daaaaayyyyvvviiiiiiiidddddd Ccconnnnooollllllyyyyy" darts announcer style, wherever he happens to be.
i came across a stream of a epl match that had darts commentater Sid Waddell comentating on it the other day, he talks absoloute garbage, very funny though.
"phil the power taylor, he could hit a treble 20 on horseback with a 10 foot bow and arrow"
Finally completed his long protracted move to Barca today.

Am disappointed none of you low-lifes congratulated Connolly on promotion. Unfortunately it could be bittersweet, he's had another injury plagued season (has been out since February but nearly made it back for the last match today) which allowed Sharp to take his spot, plus his contract is up so not sure what the future holds. Played a big part through the first month or two with his goals until Lambert hit form.
If he's lucky, a League 1 team might take a chance on him for next season.
I presume theWorm has read this but if not....

worm must be gutted, probably had a tenner on him to be the top scorer in the Premiership next season
Connolly has always had the approach of consummate professional. Unfortunately he was afflicted with so many injuries at Southampton. Nice to read the appreciation from the fans. Hard to credit that he's 35 years old now.
Worm is negotiating to get Connolly to Chicago Fire!
It looks like David Connolly will get another chance at Championship football. Crystal Palace are in for him, although the article suggests he is interested in going to Forest.

Just when you thought things couldn't get much worse for the Boys in Green, after months of fearing the worst, I received some devastating news today. David Connolly has officially retired :(
Sorry for your loss
Worry not Worm, David's clearly spotted a soon-to-be-vacant managerial post to kick start his post-playing career...
RIP David Connolly
We'll always have he's hat-trick against Liechtenstein...
Always liked Connolly. He was always up against it with a series of slights that meant he wasn't going to be remembered well. The red card against Belgium, the bust up with Givens (always found it hard that so many took givens side...)but the real killer for him was going to Feyenoord. Stopped his career in his tracks.
