Result - Dromore 1 - 2 Granville
For the 1st half Granville played into a very strong wind on a very poor pitch. The conditions meant that the standard of football on show wasn't great as both teams struggled to put any passages of play together. Dromore opened the scoring midway through the half when their only real attack of the half saw one of their players run onto a ball over the Granville defence to finish well past the outcoming Granville keeper Rob Power. Granville dominated possession in the 1st half but the only real shot of note on the Dromore goal saw the Dromore keeper save well down low to his right from a shot just outside the box. The 2nd half was one way traffic in Granvilles favour and they had to wait until 2 minutes from time to get their equaliser. A ball into the box was about to be collected by the Dromore keeper on the edge of the 6 yard box when a Dromore defender tried to intercept the ball and it fell kindly to Granville sub Ollie Kenny who made no mistake in slotting the ball home from close range. Deep into injury time Granville grabbed their winner when Liam Quinn delivered a quality corner from the left into the center of the 6 yard box and Granville central defender Dan O'Flynn rose highest to score the winner. A crucial win for Granville. Dromore put on a spirited display and had some excellent young players in their side.
performance of the weekend from Balla B beating moyross and playing a good chunk of the game with 9 men.starting to catch the teams above them.
summervile of course, winning a few games again and you have stopped moaning about referees so that will be a big help.
2nd will be between Summerville and mungret I'd say. Relegation will be tight with both Moyross and Shannon getting drawn into it .
Result Sun 24th Feb - Granville 9 v 0 Fairview
A one sided game for us played on a good surface in Glenbrook on Sunday morning. Scorers were as follows : Steven Cahill x 4, Ken O'Donoghue x 2, Liam Quinn, Jonathan Togher and Neil McGourty. Fairview had a panel of 11 players.
Shannon Town 1 Pike B 1
Feels like a defeat to be honest. One up with about 5 minutes to go. Missed a host of chances. And Pike had two shots on target in the whole game.
I watched the first 60 mins of this and couldn't believe the final score when I saw it last night. Shannon played some excellent football but as you say ye missed a load of chances. Pike I don't think had a shot in first 60 mins. It was hard to tell who was 2nd in the table and who could be fighting relegation yet. Even though pike only had 11/12 which is shocking for such a big club. .if ye play like that for rest of the season ye should be up in top half of table. Best of luck with it
Bit harsh on pike their dirt,do you know the reason why they had only 12,??i have not seen pike play this year but I'm sure their up their on merit, what's more shocking is a team coming down from prem and struggling in 1A,you don't know whether they had suspensions, injuries work commitments or any other reason, and neither do I,so I wouldn't be jumping to conclusions like you have,
What are you on about face . I have no doubt about it that pike are 2nd on merit but as for last Sunday it was hard to see how they are there.it was on Facebook that Pike only had 10 starters last week v Summerville. Which to me for such a big club is shocking I know they can't go up but surely lads would like to win the league. As for a team struggling after coming down from premier who are you talking about as Summerville and star came down last year.
Read the post properly dirt, what I said was you nor I know the reasons they had only 12 players, and yet YOU called it shocking for a big club to have only 12 players,YOUR words not mine,And isint this Shannon's second season in 1A,??its that that I find more shocking to come from Premier to relegation candidates in 2 seasons,And they are there because they obviously have more points than the 10 below them, makes perfect sense to me,nothing else to day on the matter,
Ya it is shocking for a big club to only have 10/11 players two weeks in a row. And you should really get your facts right there are only 9 teams below them. Also you should read the post properly I said Shannon could be fighting relegation. They have a very young team and maybe that is why they are mid table but they are still 5/6 points off relegation so should be ok. That's all I have to DAY about the matter too
We have a new manager and a host of new young players. It was always going to be a transition season for us. We not under any illusions, we know we are in a relegation battle now
I don't understand the "shock" in seeing us in one. ya we were in the premier two years ago but a lot changes in two years...Just look at Star Rovers.... 1A is tough tough league. If we were to start to take our chances in front of goal I think we would quickly pull away from where we are now.
Well from what I seen Sunday if ye had taking your chances ye would have been at Least 6 or 7 goals up. But at least ye are creating them. I thought ye played some good passing football
lev,
your new manager was in place before wesley webb in june/ july so no excuses there, as for host of new young players ye have only started playing them regularly in last few weeks , plus ye have lost a few players buckley to kildimo ? / o'donnell to hibs B ?also 2-3 lads playing with your b team more than capable of A team football why not use these players , Agree it is a tough league but alot of people would have fancied ye to be pushing for promotion after narrowly missing out on it last year ye are definatly missing somebody to stick the ball in the net and i think young buckley was the player to do that,
Well I cant comment too much on what happened before christmas as I was elsewhere. But Regardless of when our manager was installed it is still his first season and his first time managing in limerick.I takes time to get ideas across and to bed in. I think if we can keep the base of the squad and build on it then we might challenge next year. We just need to insure we are 1A...
Some lads don't want to play Ateam football....and that is happening in every club. You cant force someone to play Ateam.
Fair point on lads not wanting to play A Team football it happens .. but also could be down to not wanting to play for manager ?
as for managing first time in limerick are you serious with that excuse ,..he has plenty of experience managed 2-3 clubs in clare and also clare oscar traynor team not so long ago and i case you think i am having a go at manager .its not all down to him he can only pick his best 11 and then its up to players to do it on the pitch, personally what i have seen of ye the season you should be higher up the league and should be more than capable of staying up but it becomes a battle to get results when ye dont take your chances during games best of luck for the rest of the season :ball:
Result - Thurs 28th Feb - Div. Cup Semi-Final - Granville 3 v 1 Mungret.
Mungret settled into this game quickly and were rewarded midway through the first half when they took the lead from close range when our defence failed to clear a corner. Their lead didn't last too long as we were on level terms when Cian Byrnes beat the Mungret offside trap to slot the ball under the outcoming Mungret keeper and Ken O'Donoghue was on hand to make sure by tapping the ball home. Into the second half and our fitness levels began to tell as we pushed forward in search of the lead which came midway through the half when Cian Byrnes picked the ball up on the left side and forced his way just inside the Mungret box before firing a powerful left footed drive past the Mungret keeper at his near post. Mungret never gave up and pushed forward in greater numbers in search of an equaliser but we finished the contest off on the break 5 minutes from time when Ken O'Donoghue picked the ball up again on the left side and from just inside the Mungret area he curled a right footed shot into the top left hand corner of the Mungret net. Two excellent goals scored on the night for us at a cold Jackman Park. Our A team can now look forward to a Cup Final in Jackman Park in the coming weeks.
Very fair assesment of the match. We can have no complaints, ye desrved the win. Our fitness let us down and ye're second had been coming from the start of the second half. Our attention now turns to the race for promotion. Good luck in the final!
Moyross 0-1 Sville
As horrible a one niller as you can imagine, we got an early goal and defended very well to keep then out, that said we had the best chances after to add a second and third. Moyross play great football, and there sideline tries their best to intimidate refs and players alike. They also missed a penalty in the first half. Ref was ok but he bottled one decision which was laughable, he gave us an indirect free inside their box for a foul, you couldn't make it up. There sideline was on stictches laughing at the call. Anyway, great result, as I said moyross played us off the park without the end product, will be no doubt a serious threat in this division next season
Indirect for a foul????WTF who was the ref?
Not sure his name, it was disgraceful
What kind of a foul? The rule for obstruction is an indirect free in the box.
The rule for obstruction is an indirect free in the box
Awh come on lads
Obstruction doesnt exist in the Laws the game anymore
Lots of people dont know the laws includin that ref
I'm afraid it does exist boys, seen at least 2 this season, given correctly as indirect frees that had sidelines screaming for penalties. People really don't know some of the rules, or as you correctly pointed out, the laws. Any refs out there care to weigh in?
And I didn't see the game Booster, so I asked what type of foul it was. If he was taken out then it's clearly a penalty offence.
Those two time you seen it were wrong...
Show me where it says an indirect free kick should be givin for obstruction in the rule book and il eat my hat!!!!
That rule is gone years ago...if you block someone by accident using contact with the body it is a DIRECT free kick....and if its in the box a penatly should be givin!!!
Thats what makes a refs job so hard cos 90% of refs/player/supporters dont even know the laws of the game so your fu%ked if ur right or wrong
If you're arguing about obstruction no longer existing, you're right, it's now called impeding progress. If you were arguing about the offence tho, and I'd imagine few players argue about phrasing on Sunday mornings,it's punishable with an indirect free kick.
I disagree with the refs not been too familiar with the rules.. There's plenty of good refs out there Donal power and Steven Rooney are excellent young refs, Nigel Casey too, a good young ref coming through, as I said in all the ref handled the game Sunday well but for that, we've had him a few times now and he's one of the better ones, like players everyone has errors. He handled the sidelines very well too
Cup semi-final played last night :
Caherdavin 5 Summerville 3
Great game and some excellent goals. Caherdavin v Granville in the final
Result Sun 10th March - Granville 2 v 0 Caherconlish.
A goal in each half from Cian Byrnes and Brian O'Doherty settled this game which was played on a very soft pitch at a very cold and wet Glenbrook on Sunday morning. Caherconlish battled for the 90 minutes and even at two down they could have drawn level but our keeper Rob Power made two excellent saves to deny them. Well done to Caherconlish who made us work hard to earn the 3 points which continues our push for promotion.
Agree with you. Reckon it will be a close game myself. Feeling confident after beating Summerville, bit of a bogey team for us in recent years
