good to see the two Liverpool players in the squad, but it means both O'Hanlon and Cleary have been omitted from underage squads again.
Is there something going on we don't know about?

This could be the start of a new cycle and he may be going for a younger squad. I know it's first call ups for all bar Poynton of the LOI lads
Good to see a player from the great Wimbledon called up. A good legacy of providing classy defenders to Irish squads. And this one attracting interest from Arsenal, Brighton and Fulham.
English-born though so he might get worried about putting bread on the table like some others... This is the article linking those clubs: http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport...ighton-9637876
Positive looking squad. Is this Shodipo's first call-up? Nice LOI contingent again.
Shodipo has been in other squads but think this is his first call up at u19 level
true, but both also omitted from the U21 squad for Italy and Lithuania: http://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/king-...-double-header
Deacy was at Southampton so he must b home. Think it's shopido s first involvement the Brennan Lad on twitter said he was eligible last year.
Jamie aherne played for Liverpool here over the summer but he must not have signed.
Great to see Whelan in thought he might have switched back.
Mulhern seems to score a good but for Leeds am I right in saying his brother plays rugby league for British?
Now that you mention those LOI lads, am I right in saying the portion of Irish-born players with British clubs in this squad is quite small?
I think the following are Irish-born (I think): McCabe, Talbot, Casey, Kane, McCourt, Masterson, Breslin, Shodipo (not sure how long he was here for after birth). That's 8. And 7 LOI-based with the rest English-born (Cadman, Whelan, Mulhern, Ronan, Sweeney being 5).
Interesting make-up.
His brother Robbie plays for Leeds Rhinos in the Super League and has played Ruby League for us too

Was in Limerick, and off work today, so managed to make it to the game in the Market's Field. The U19s lost 2-1.
Game overall wasn't great, Ireland's goal was probably the highlight. Both Ukrainian goals came from crosses from the wing, and strikers nicking in behind a static defence. Their first goal came from the left wing, and converted from close in. The second from the right and was headed in, again from close range.
Many in the Markets for it Tets ? Great to see Ireland playing there.
Yeah, a decent crowd, considering the kick off time. At least three different schools had a class each there, going by their uniforms. Attendance was maybe 300-400 altogether?

No Masterson, or Whelan from Liverpool. Seriously, is there something going on that academy players from Liverpool are being ignored by the various underage managers?Quote:

Both players (along with Daniel Cleary and Alex O'Hanlon) played for the Liverpool U21s against Spurs recently: http://assets3.liverpoolfc.tv/fixtur...t-match-report
Whelan and Masterson played against Wolves for the U18s last week: http://assets3.liverpoolfc.tv/fixtur...t-match-report
They're not injured, they're playing regularly at a highly rated academy, and what's even stranger is I can't find any appearances for Kelleher since the summer, so what's going on??
The kelleher one is strange he hasnt even been on the bench for the pools 18s even though he looked a fine keeper in last years euros the pool academy is crazy strong. Always a fear whelan is not fully commited to us. Masterson has looked sheer class for pool at 18s and when he has stepped up to the 21s . Best of luck be interesting to see how good the scots are
On the positive side, it's definitely promising that four Irish underage international teenagers are playing for the Liverpool U21s, especially with Masterson still only 17 (however we thought that about the Villa set-up a few years ago and that has yet to bear fruit for our senior team - although Derrick Williams is possibly within sight of the squad and Samir Carruthers is also playing fairly regularly in the Championship)

1-0 down at half time, despite seemingly having most of the play

Just kicked off, Scotland took an early lead after only two minutes
Two up. Day-day bye-bye.
Three now. :(
Bye bye Mr. Doolin...
4-0...
To be fair this is the first time in years we have not got to the 2nd elite round phase and he did take us to the semi s with the group that had hendrick in it even without brady when deulofeu from everton destroyed us . this scots side got to the euro 17s semi finals 2 years ago so must have bit about them. The group looked awful light and as much as people hate to hear it havin a lot of league of ireland lads in the squad is usually a sign of a lack of dept in an age group. Next years group for example is unlikely to have many lads who are not in the uk involved.
Longer-form match report/opinion piece here for anyone who's interested...
Ireland U19 0-4 Scotland U19: Ireland eliminated after miserable showing at Markets Field
RTE headline was "Ireland Fail To Shine".
That's a bit like Emperor Hirohito's "developments not necessarily to our advantage" after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
I saw that alright and was equally nonplussed!
Ireland "go easy" on the Scots
the 18s won 4 nil today http://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/5550...391?tab=report
Great to see kinsella back. they left out alot of the lads who were first choice for the 17s in the euro finals hopefully building dept for the 19s qualifiers next season, Think doolin deserves to stay but will be under pressure if does not get this group to the 19s finals next season. Mcdonagh looks like a giant in the photo!!
Squad named for friendlies in September against Wales: http://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/u19-2...les-friendlies
Ryan Johansson of Bayern Munich is included. If he plays in the U19 qualifiers in October - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_U...ation#Group_10 - will that mean he's tied to Ireland, since he's already played for Luxembourg's U17 side?Quote:

Oh that's interesting! One for the experts... I think you are right though, as of today. There was some talk last year of relaxing this somewhat but my understanding is that you can switch once, and that the switch applies to moving from any other nationality / age group regardless of whether the fixture was competitive or not.
Aside from that, do we know much about Tom Gaston? I don't think I've seen the name before. Looks Irish anyway:
