Disgusted by the little number of people wearing loi jerseys, only saw a few rovers tho i'm sure there were more. I sat proudly in my blues jersey with people looking at me as if i had three heads on me, but didnt care, Anytime our players got the ball all the fans around me were cheering them on which was great. Great for Dave "goal machine" Mulcahy to get a goal to give it a little credibility.
Match that didnt matter with a result that didnt matter. The players gave all they had and thats all i could have asked of them. Joey Ndo was a pleasure to watch too, and ryan guy's sommersalut throw was a crowd pleaser. If that money goes back to the clubs in some way or form then i'll be happy.

Second post here in ages. Why are LoI fans getting upset about tonight's game in Lansdownne? You get a pile of local lads together for a couple of kickarounds before playing a club of the stature of Manchester United just days before their season starts and you're amazed that they get hammered. Big deal.
99% of the people at that game will never attend a LoI game. They don't care. They only came to see United, and I bet they were pleased before they got bored and went home.
Invest your time and energy into making your club better and you'll eventually reap dividends by gradually gaining converts from those who are curious.
Hoping to win over day tripper event junkies with one exhibition game as irrelevant as tonight's is a pointless exercise.

A good quote here sums up my take on it as well.
People wanted the Irish lads to equate themselves well as they would for Irish lads in any form of sport. Though it needs to be understood that the LoI is seen in a poor light by the typical person, partly due to its increasingly Dublin centric nature, antics of Delaney such as with the Barca fiasco and constant financial strains and clubs going under. It's a competition few support outside of certain corners of the country so there isn't a strong affinity there.Quote:
As for the game. Poor showing by our lads overall. Thought Williams did well in the middle and Ndo showed at least an appetite for attack. We never tested their defence really, which was disappointing.
Valencia was very good as was Rooney. Nani could be a big player for them this season.

I can relate somewhat with the ManU supporters, I know in the case of the match tomorrow that I own a Juventus jersey and not a Shamrock Rovers one, that I've grown up with admiration to the likes of Del Piero, Trez, Buffon and greats like Cannavaro, Nedved, Zidane, Zambrotta etc. I've been to Turin its a lovely place, I've been to Dublin. It's not. Hence the dilemma. I'd of course support any of them if they pull on the green of Ireland but right now they're representing Dublin who I have no desire whatsoever in them getting any sort of personal glory. I'd like them to win for the sake of the league, but in no way for them. The match WAS a bit of a joke, but that shouldn't have any influence on allegiance. Irish people sitting in a stadium cheering on an English team against an Irish 1 is definitely going to be 1 of those social phenomenon that people look back on in years to come and think 'ah jesus' like flares and mullets.
Worst of all was what the watching english supporters are saying about the league and the kind of image its given itself from this.

It was nothing short of cringe-inducing to watch that game tonight. And I'm not referring to the result....
If I'd been in Dublin tonight I probably would have gone along to the game, but in hindsight if I ever get the opportunity to attend such a 'spectacle' in Ireland I won't. There must surely be nothing wierder or more wrong than being made to feel like a foreigner in your own country - and by your own people...
