Isn't the bar just the bar bit? As in the counter where you order the drink (and can sit at if you wish).
So pub and bar are housed in the one building.

Bar can mean either the counter or the whole establishment. Pub means the establishment, and whatever the original meanings, is interchangeable with the second definition of bar, as well as inn (in the US - in Europe, the word retains connotations of a place offering lodgings also), tavern (old legal distinctions) and lounge (waiting area in a hotel with seating). The Montrose is probably most accurately a 'bar and lounge', but it's also a pub (or maybe an inn, depending on just how old our licensing laws are).
