And, very thankfully, there he stayed.

Playing for the U23 team today. Hopefully fit enough to start Palace's next game.
I'm sure they'll be thinking of making a few changes!
McCarthy reportedly wanted by Sean Dyche at Burnley.
Started today and was quite solid in central mid against Man United for an hour. Unfortunately had to be subbed off with what looks like a groin injury. Too bad because he honestly does a good job. Depending on severity of that groin issue we could be missing him for qualifying this month.
will lead the line in Serbia
if it were my decision would pick him, randy, coleman, egan, doherty and shane long, (maybe stevens, K.Long too) and the rest I would call up youngsters for the panel
I'd be sceptical about playing him up front whether injured or not.
Could lead the line as the unlikely candidate in a line up of Argentinian Desperados !
I'm reopening the thread now.
Bielsa´s irish, you have 5 infractions on Foot.ie for making unsubstantiated claims, and that's why the moderators are focusing on you -- you do the same thing over and over again, you don't improve your behaviour. We don't care who you are or where you're from, we just want people to be able to chat without disruption, and you're being disruptive. So either provide links or data for your claims on Foot.ie, or don't post on Foot.ie, it's up to you. If you do it one more time, you'll be suspended from Foot.ie for 1 month. If you do it again after that, it will be permanent. This is your final warning.
Everyone else, if you have a problem with moderation or accusations about trolling, you're entitled to that, but you're also being disruptive by posting it in this thread. We have Report buttons and a Support forum, use those or just stop. Bielsa´s irish's identity and location is none of your business. If you think they're breaking the rules, send us evidence of that and we'll deal with it.
Ok, but again Iam from Buenos Aires, I live in Hurlingham on greater Bs.As, I am a professor and journalist. I lived in France and Switzerland worked for ONU at Genève, and I have been a fan of your team since Liam Brady my childhood hero in the 80's. Of course our England war made argentinos y argentinas a bit closer to the irish and scottish tbf.
My opinions are mine, are my own, because I know football a lot. A guy like Hoolahan who was playing for Ireland so late in his carrer showed the lack of trust in irish youth.
Ive got to go to teach...See you around fellows. Lets wait for Thursday
I don't care where you're from or what you do. Obey our rules and moderators and you'll be fine. Don't and you'll be gone. End of story.
McCarthy started the final three matches of Crystal Palace's season. Putting him in the shop window, perhaps?
He's been released by Crystal Palace, which is strange as they started him for the last three league matches of the season. I thought that he had another year left to run on his deal, but I must have been mistaken.
He was one of many in his final year there alright. He was never going to be kept on really with his injury record showing no major signs of improving, unfortunately.
Leeds or Celtic
I'd imagine anyone willing to take him on would be putting pressure on him to retire from international football given his injury record
He still is our best player.
Graeme Jones at Newcastle Utd reportedly a big fan of McCarthy (footballtransfertavern.com, 24 July), and of course no transfer fee involved, which would keep Mike Ashley happy.
The only way anyone should offer him a contract is on a pay as you pay deal. His injury record is ridiculous
Signs a four year deal with Celtic: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc...l/58077880.amp
4 years for McCarthy and 3 for 34 year old Hart. Not very prudent.
I'm extremely surprised that he would go to Celtic given all the abuse he suffered in Scotland after he declared for Ireland. Who knows what was happening behind the scenes, but I'd be much more impressed with these two signings if they had been made a month ago, and not now. Celtic's season is already over.
A four year deal for McCarthy??? Wow. I’m very surprised by that given his injury history.
Given McCarthy's problems with injuries, I think this is a good move for him. The Europa League will offer a good standard of football and is probably a more appropriate level for Celtic to compete in these days. Obviously the domestic league is a step down but hopefully that means he can be rotated appropriately, with perhaps him being used primarily in Europe and big domestic matches (Old Firm, etc).
I was assuming he’d be straight into Celtic team but he’s on the bench last few games
It will be very interesting to see if he plays for us again. I have a feeling he may call time on his international career, although I hope I'm wrong as I feel he's our best player by a mile when fit.
At the end of the day, every player wants to play in a World Cup. If he’s fit I have no doubt he will make himself available and will start.
I think the step down in Scotland will be better for him physically as he won’t be as run down all the time given his team will enjoy more possession and won’t be chasing all the time. Hopefully this translates into him being fitter and more energetic for us. Wishful thinking perhaps.
Smoeone's optimistic anyway! :p
I dont remember ever watching an Ireland game where I thought McCarthy was our best player never mind by a mile!
James McCarthy is Carlos Kaiser.
