leicester v luton 1-1
this was dire, of interest only for the ammount of our lot involved, with Maybury and Yeates starting for the home side with Logan on the bench and McCarthy missing out due to an injury sustained in training in the week, it would have been interesting to see if McCarthy would have been selected, or if he comes straight back in as he has been taking some criticism on the clubs message boards of late for his performances, but most of these have been in away fixtures so ive not seen the games.
Maybury was ok, he played at right back and talked to Yeates throughout, who played in front of him, which was good to see, and he shot narrowly over from distance in the first half, however deep in injury time with his side pushing he was the last man, isolated one on one with their striker when a long luton punt gave them both something to chase, he had time, he had space, he had given himself a few yards, he got there comfortably first, he could have put it out, given it to the keeper or even taken a touch and got turned, but instead he slashed at it with his weaker left foot and hit the onrushing luton player , the only opposition player within an asses roar of him and he crashed it straight against him, very very poor and very very lucky it happened to rebound out of play and didnt give the striker a clear run at goal and may have put leicester in the real deep brown stuff at the foot of the table.
Yeates i liked the look of, his goal on 6 minutes visibly boosted him when he, had he so wished, would have had time for a nice cup of tea, before putting into an empty net. just what he would have wanted on a home debut. he was taking the leicester set free kicks and corners, doing so pretty well with his right , but from open play would switch onto his left on occasion when crossing, nice balance and nice to see a player looking to cross off his weaker side. he was withdrawn with 10 to go but wasnt fading and in my opinion looking most likely to create something. i thought he was unfortunate to get the tug but got a good reception from the home crowd. i would however like to see him getting on the ball more as time goes on and be involved in the play more often than he was on sat.
for luton, Bell, Foley, Keane and Emmanuel started and proir to coming off with injury very early on, Emannuel had taken 2 super corners and had been playing on the left of midfield.
Foley was decent, didnt get forward hardly at all but neither do i recall leicester crossing from his flank, he put in a few heavy challenges also.
Bell played on the right of midfield and never looked like getting past his man but did deliver the deadball for his sides equaliser and provided good quality from the set plays after Emannuels injury.he didnt give it away either in open play.Keane had a steady 90 but to be honest didnt catch my eye one way or the other.

Loan captures' delight at making mark

New signing Mark Yeates said he could not have asked for more from his debut after scoring with his first touch in a Leicester City shirt.
Yeates was thrown into the starting line-up against Luton for his first appearance since joining on loan from Tottenham on transfer deadline day.
And he instantly repaid manager Robert Kelly's faith by scoring with six minutes on the clock of Saturday's Championship clash at the Walkers Stadium.
Yeates stroked the ball home from the edge of the area after Luton goalkeeper Marlon Beresford had blocked Iain Hume's first attempt.
"I was delighted to get the goal," the 22-year-old Irishman said. "It's always good to get a goal on your debut.
"The lads were saying that it was my first touch.
"I don't know if it was or not but, as I said, I am delighted. I couldn't have asked for much more.
"I saw Humey (Iain Hume) get put through on goal and thought that I'd better back up the play.
"Luckily enough, the ball came to me and I managed to take it well on my other side."
He added: "For the first 20 to 30 minutes, I thought we played well. We kept the ball moving and big Geoff Horsfield up there is a handful. If you are under pressure, you can clip it up to him.
"Hume is busy and I thought we were unlucky to be going in at half-time on level terms.
"We can take a lot of positives out of this into the next game at Ipswich, which we are all looking forward to."
Yeates said the goal - his first of the season - came after a frustrating period of his career.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a productive loan spell at Colchester last season where he made 44 appearances and helped the Layer Road club achieve promotion to the Championship.
This season, Yeates went out on loan again, this time to Hull when former Colchester manager Phil Parkinson was in charge.
However, Yeates endured what he described as a frustrating spell at the KC Stadium.
"It has been a bit frustrating for me after a really good season," he said.
"I went to Hull and things went a bit wrong. This is a nice way to start things here."

“The game is all about different facets and he (Aiden) has got a lot. It’s just putting them all together now in a package which is more beneficial for Aiden, the team and the club. But there’s plenty there and I’m so excited. It’s been a great, great day.

Sheridan's progress has been incredible. I don't even know if he was a Celtic player last season.

Apart from this he had a fairly poor game, getting shrugged off the ball on several occasions earlier on. Of course great to see it not affecting him with his skill for setting up the goal. People get on his back when they see him losing possession like that but I believe you need a player or two like him in your side, someone who can jink past an opponent and open things up with a little through ball. He would lose the ball a lot if he played more for Ireland,frustrating people, but I also think he would create more chances, which is where we usually struggle.

Logan on the bench with Yeates and Maybury in the 11 for leicester, McCarthy's seasons almost certainly over.I like the look of Yeates, skillfull, tricky and entertaining to watch, he provided a good outlet ball all day for his defenders and deliverd a handfull of crosses off either foot as well, some of them causing real problems but early on he delivered very poorly from 2 or 3 dead ball situations.id like to see more end product to his work though, but he is a young player so it may come. he did provide one moment of sheer brilliance when he was under a high dropping ball at the back edge of the penalty area, and with his first touch with his right he left 2 chasing defenders on the floor and then struck a fierce low drive with his second touch with his left which brought a fine save.
over all he is giving a good first impression,he looks very good when he drifts in from the line and gets involved in the build up play, comfortable with it and clever in his passing, i would like to see a little more end product and a touch less show offy type stuff late on when players had run hard to get up in support only to be ignored by him when trying to do to much, he got a good reception when subbed with 10 to go.
Maybury had a good game, defended solidly and overlapped Yeates with good timing and speed on a few occasions, the crosses didnt match the runs though.
for coventry, Tabb played in a midfield role and as a player ive liked the look of in u21 games and during his time at brentford i was looking forward to watching him play,and despite trying to create and being good in posession under pressure, nothing was really coming off for him, his side were 3-0 down after half an hour anyway. he did make some clever late runs but was never found.
at the back for them was Hawkins, and i suppose its not easy for a cb to look good while getting pounded 3-0 but he stuck at it and semed to be a talker, always organising and shouting instructions, on the ground he impressed me, he was composed and picked out good passes at times when other players may have lumped it. he didnt look out of place generally to me but ultimately the tall cf Horsfield, who he was picking up, came away with 2 goals and a motm award.
Thornton is out for the season, injured and Doyle wasnt on show, i believe he was involved in a serious training ground 'incident'.
Stephen Ward just scored for Wolves, Sunderland are 1-0 up, thanks to Carlos Edwards (it 'would have been a waste of time' for Irish keeper Colin Doyle to try and save it)

O'Dea kept a clean sheet against Milan, McGeady also in the side. I didn't see much of the game but what i did see, Milan seemed to have most of the play
Celtic - Milan
Celtic had 56% possession but Milan were clearly a class apart. It was the best I've seen them in a long time.
O'Dea did well to keep a clean sheet and Boruc only had 1 proper save to make all game. McGeady was marked by Oddo and Gattuso. He didn't have a bad game but he just didn't take on the full back. All his passes were short, nothing special, but I guess Strachan is still coaching him.
