All very touchie girls down that end of West Limerick on this site lately.....
Time of the month :p
Anyone know when league cup draws are to be made and started ?
Dont know that.
Heard the Oscor youths beat Shannonside 3-1 tonight.I assume it was on in Askeaton,Clounreask.Peter Nash (Rathkeale) and a Brian Hanigan got two.Who does he play for?
Was at the game last nite.....how Shannonside are top of the table is beyond me. They were outplayed by a bunch of kids. The Youths played much the better football, trying to keep the ball on the deck at all times wheras shannonside resorted to too many hoofed balls.
Noted earlier in the thread someone was advocating charging admission to Desmond League games, but what spectator facillities do Desmond League clubs have ?
Are Rathkeale the only club to have a covered stand (or is it more of a covered terrace ?), aware Newcastlewest ground is enclosed within the Demense but does it have a stand ?
A number of clubs have covered stands or something to that effect. Newcastle, Glin, Rathkeale, Killeaney all have more than adequate stands. And even in the first division the likes of Carrig and Ballingarry have stands too.
As a NCW man, I would agree with you. Old dressing rooms but at least there is something there. Pitch is top notch thats all you need. Plus a covered stand which is a great thing to have at the club. Now lets see if Rathkeale can hold up against a strong Carrick side!!!!!
Carrig and Ballingarry (Div 1) and Kilcornan (Div 2) are clubs outside the premier that have stands while Askeaton have a decent stand too which in this type of weather is well appreciated
Facilities are improving all the time, Rathkeale, NCW, Ballingarry, Glin, Kileaney, Broadford, Askeaton, Carrig all have covered areas for spectators, half of them are seated. People are missing the point of charging €3, just €3 at the gate, its a way of desmond league supporters to support their local club in a small way. GAA clubs are around for 125 years, most soccer clubs are around only 20 years, only emerging the last 10. A lot of soccer clubs are passing out their local GAA counterparts in terms of facilities and charging €3, just €3 at the gate is a way of showing pride in your facilities, not selling yourself short.
Someone else said they thaught it was a disgrace St Bens were charging at the gate as they are in Div 4 with poor facilities, I say fair play to St Bens for doing it, it only pays the ref, the revenue is small but local people can support their local club and keep the whole thing going. Is €3 measley euro not okay to charge for all the work people do on and off the pitch to keep a small football club running?

Carrick united proved again they are a classy side with a good performance against this afternoon.. Took the 2nd half handy after being 3-0 up at half time
Went to see Newcastle west play granagh this
Morning in munster junior cup.. Great game played by Newcastle but the man of the match had to be the granagh keeper who saved a penalty and pulled off 5 or 6 magnificent saves to keep the scoreline down
Granagh keeper pulled off some great saves alright. As for rathkeale v carrick got there for 2nd half and thought myself rathkeale wer not at full strenght...Might be wrong? had ye a few injuries El Nino ....However carrick still would have won I think from what I was told from the 1st half...

Carrick are a good side but no world beaters.Rathkeale were the better team for the first 15-20min but sat back and allowed Carrick to pile on the pressure.
Botrh teams cancelled each other out the second half.Carrick introduced their international captain and current player of the year back from injury in the second half so they hardly took it easy !!
You'd expect NCW to beat Granagh by more.Heard they were still very poor against Pallas the week before.Sterner tests ahead like this weekend.
Will there be any matches this w.end with the weather?
How did everyones pitchs hold up last w.end?
NCW Vs Abbey should be a good one, will give an indication of where both clubs are.
The Desmond Youths team are looking very promising judging by the 3/4 warm ups they have already played. They are playing the Kerry League this Saturday at 2.30 in Clounreask. I bet lots of people are hanging around with nothing to do but watch English football this Saturday afternoon?
Why not go along and support the lads for the match, covered stand, watch out for two particular talents, Tomlin from Rathkeale and Hannigan from Broadford.
Desmond League Youth Squad For Saturday
David Mullins, Thomas Smith, Danny Dillon, Thomas Ward (Abbeyfeale), Fergal Cassidy (Asketon), Dean Clancy, Shane Doherty (Ballingarry), Aidan Thorntan, Diarmuid Noonan (Bally Rovers), Brian Hannigan, Micheal Brosnan, Barry Lynch, Liam Shaughnessy (Broadford Utd), Cian Shorten, Jimmy Dillane (Creeves Celtic), Stephen O Brien (Granagh Utd), Gary Shanahan (Newcastle West), Ian Corbett (Newcastle West Rovers), Darren Walsh (Pallaskenry), Stephen Power, Lee Tomlin, Peter Nash, Sean White, Darren Jones (Rathkeale)
Drew 3-3. They were playing Mungret Regional not Regional United. Mungret went 2 up and were 2-1 at HT. Got a pen to level it, then Mungret got a third and Desmond League got a fluke to level it. Not a bad game on a terrible night.
I would guess that the Desmound League team were missing a good few.
Any word on when the league cups are starting this season ?
Good chance there will be a blanket cancellation this weekend I'd say, forecast is brutal for the next few days.
Carrick were by far the better team, were you at the the game. Why would a team sit back playing down the hill with a strong breeze behind them its because Carrick took a hold off the game and dominated all over the park, and our captain is only coming back from a bad injury so it was only game time him before bigger games come up. Rathkeale are a good team but have a long way to go before competing with the top junior teams..
Yes I was at the match and you'll find there is no hill on that pitch! I never heard anyonr say that before about the pitch.
I agree that Carrick are the better team I just think Rathkeale started better and were the better team for the first 20min.
Carrick are a good team but I just thought they would be a bit better than they were.Maybe they can play better I dont know.I know Rathkeale ccan play better and their centre mid player got hurt early and struggled to play the rest of the game.
Best of luck to Carrick a good team and a nice bunch of lads it seems.Good ambassoders of their town.
No bother tanxs and best of luck to ye in the rest of yer season especailly the FAI on sunday you never know we might meet again and this time ye might open the Black lion pub for us at least i think that was the name anyway!!
