Sunderland have signed Ustari (Argentine goalkeeper) for the rest of the season on loan. Hopefully Poyet views him as a stop-gap for while Westwood is out.

I think I wrote a few months back that Westwood had nothing to worry about wrt Mannone. He made awful howlers against West Ham and others when at Arsenal, and looked all at sea in other games. But I was very impressed with him last night, and not just the penalties - his open play goalkeeping was very solid and commanding. I think it's hard for keepers to wear the jersey at a big club with high expectations, but Mannone has made the Sunderland jersey his own and fair play to him. We won't see Westwood back in that shirt anytime soon, even after his recovery.

Mannone has been pretty faultless since getting into the team from what I have seen. It's really just not happening for poor Westwood, all the more reason I would welcome Given back with open arms should his form continue.

Strange one this, Schmeichel had interest last year but stayed despite the clubs season imploding. Spurs were linked for weeks. They are looking like being promoted this season handily, but you never know.

Vito is starting to look more and more like the Arsenal version these times.

I didn't see but from the Guardian real-time feed it sounded like a complete calamity - he let go of the ball but he still had the chance to get up but he tripped over himself?

If that happened to canny Schmeichel, he would have been doing a rain dance on an alleged loose sod and harangue the slow motion defender, none of that self recrimination stuff.

Just heard Jeff Stelling say that Mannone won the Sunderland player of the year award.

To be honest, I think you were vindicated towards the end of the season, very shaky with a howler or two thrown in for good measure.

Hopefully, he gets to a good club and my love child Bunn might finally get a chance at Norwich as Ruddy looks likely to move on.

Probably a good move financially, but he will spend a lot of time removing splinters from his backside!
