well done monksland..what way do people see the Senior Division going.Willow or Peters.
Just chatting one of the longer serving players ...
Monksland oined the CCFL at the start of the 2006/2007 season.... the previous season we had just managed to stave off relegation from the Premier Division of the Roscommon league, beating Rahara Rovers 6-1 on the last day of the season to stay up. not that it mattered in the end as we ended up joining the CCFL...
we entered into the 2nd tier of the league... back then it was called Division 1. now it's the Premier Division. we were relegated in our first year In 2007/2008 we finished 4th in the 3rd tier missing out on promotion to Temple Villa and Coolraine. 2008/2009 season finished second to (Hayward Celtic) and getting promoted back up to what's now the Premier League.
4 years, 1 relegation, 2 promotions, a cup final and 1 league title.
Senior Division took another twist tonight ... Willow were 1 up against CK at half time ... free kick straight through the keepers legs, while Peters were 1 down against Melville. Melville down to 10 men ... Peters pulled 2 goals back and Melville reduced to 9 men ... CK equalise at Willow so its Advantage Peters ... for now!!!
Was down at the willow vs Saint peters game last night great game of football and excitement in the town.willow destroyed peters last week in cotter cup and peters did the same to willow park in county...was wondering must have been 200 to 300 people there for domestic junior football i wonder is there many junior soccer matches in the country that attract so much interest? A credit to both clubs.
willow beat st peters 1 0 to win the league.
Big crowd down and there were plenty of twists.
Willow had to win & a draw would hand st.peters the title.
Willow went 1 up in the 1st half and this half was 50 / 50.
Willow midfielder sent off with approx 25mins left??
Referee played 6 mins extra time.
Referee gave a corner to st peters which was a blatant goal kick.
Goalmouth scramble and the ball was cleared off the line via a hand.
Referee sent off the wrong player??
St peters sub (i think) hit the post with the keeper rooted to the spot.
Willow are champs for the 3rd year running!!
Overall st peters may feel they could have at least got the point required but
they did not force a save out of the willow keeper over the 96mins even with the
extra man. Willow had to defend deep and they did!! Worthy champions...
*well done to st peters on winning the counties cup today. They beat mountmellick 5 1.
Was a good performance from st peters though they were comfortable*
best of luck to willow park in tolja next sunday in the leinster junior cup!!
Are there any buses going?
well done to willow park on winning the leinster cup, fair play to everyone involved with the club great season.
Indeed well done to Willow Park, who also picked up Club of the year at this years CCFL awards on Friday last. Bealnamulla got team of the year
Looks like Athlone soccer is alive and kicking, just not at division one LOI.
One question posed to me this morning that I couldn't answer was how M McConnell, E Gaylord were eligible to play in the LJ Final having been sent off in their last league game in May? Indeed there were questions over C Fortune and if he was sent off after the final wistle against Peters. I'm sure Willow had their home work done but it was said to me that they should have missed their next game i.e the LFA Final.
As far as I know LFA cup is not a domestic competition where as league game is so if sent off in a domestic comp you serve suspension in next domestic game.
Similar to Rooney getting sent off for Utd in a league game he's still eligible for Champions League. I stand corrected but that the way I understood it
So if Rooney was sent off in the semi final and united went out are you saying he would serve no suspension in the premier league? As you know, it was willows last league game when the guys were sent off, when do you think those suspensions will be served? Thanks all the same pedro.
Yes with Rooney example he'd serve it the following season as if you remember Drogba (admittedly not sent off) served his suspension recieved for antics at Barca game last year the following season.
I would imagine Willow player would miss first game of next season. I'm sure they clarified it with the league/LFA would not be worth risking.
Makes no difference to me one way or tother but we had a guy sent off in the LFA quarter final. We were knocked out at that stage. He served his suspension in the next game we played which was a CCFL league game. If it works that way round i'd be curious to know why it doesn't work the other way round.
I do know however, that domestic suspensions are not valid for external cup comps i.e if a player had a three game ban for a straight red, and his next three games were CCFL league, CCFL League, FAI cup, CCFL Cup, he would miss the first two, eligible to play the tird and then miss the fourth.
Anyone on here with any views about the development division? The CCFL are proposing that the top two tiers of the league put forward a development team for youths and young players trying to beark into the first 11s at clubs. There will be no regrading for these players which should help the top tier teams improve with bigger squads and help younger players by playing with better players as they move up and down between the teams.
There are some clubs who aren't that interested and to be honest it is these same clubs who give out about things outside their control yet here is something positive they won't embrace.
38 years in the league in its various guises, there will be no Ballybrittas FC team in the 2014/15 season.
