ya heard his say this but he was just speculating. i dont think he will quit after this campaign, hes only soon 31. as long as hes playing well and scoring i dont see him quitting. God forbid the day he does, im dreading it.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but just realised that among players still playing, Robbie is now the leading international goalscorer in the world - in the past week he overtook Drogba, who is on 47.
4 more goals would take him into the top 10 of all time, and 8 more would see him overtake Gabriel Batistuta and into 7th place of all time. If he keeps playing I'd put money on him achieving that.
Never was indeed!
the man is a living legend, i dread the day he hangs his boots up with ireland.
It's remarkable.
I had the misfortune of visiting another forum during the week where some tool was yapping about him in derogatory terms. It was like watching that Iraqi information minister during the war, carrying on with his position becoming ever more ludicrous. Granted, Keane can be frustrating at times but you'd swear he'd personally insulted some of these people.
Has to be considered Irelands greatest ever player. Unreal scoring record and yeah, I dread the day he goes too.
This isn't quite true. You are getting your statitstics from a table that contains the highest scorer for each individual country, therefore it doesn't include players who are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. for their countries. For example, Miroslav Klose has 61 goals for Germany, but isn't included on the list as Gerd Muller is Germany's record goalscorer.
It's still a phenomenal record for Keane. 49 goals for a country placed in the toughest qualifying zone, generally around the third seeds mark is a huge achievement. He is right to want to beat the British record also, a lot of people seem to think it's irrelevant. I would certainly take a lot of pride from him outscoring everybody on these two islands...ever!
Oops, sorry about that! But as you say the point holds.
Well, that's Wikipedia for you! Three different pages have three different totals for Eto'o: 46, 50 and 52. I'm inclined to believe 52 is correct and the other two are just out of date, but the page with 46 prompted my original post.
Stern John is retired, surely?!
Robbie has broken through into the top 30 scorers in international football history. With his relatively young age and the fact that almost all of the players above him have retired he can climb further up that table. Hopefully he can find a move that will rejuvinate his club career and keep his game sharp. He has potentially two further campaigns left in him for Ireland.

Legend. Top class.
I remember after his debut against Argentina, Niall Quinn in a post match interview said as much that Robbie will not only smash his (Nialls) total but go on to where no player has gone before.
But more important to me is his growing maturity as a player and as a captain.
Who would have thought it?
He has over-taken Bobby Charlton to become England's top goal scorer!!!!!
14 more and he is in the top ten of all time, 58 more......(forget it).
Stern John is not retired, was looking for a club this past year and failed to latch on after picking up an injury I believe. If he plays in the T&T Pro League and gets some call ups for matches against some of the smaller Caribbean teams he could very well score some more.
Not retired, missed a penalty (hit the bar, quite similar to the Macedonian penalty) in injury time today against Senegal that would've given them a 1-0 win and put them within touching distance of Senegal at the top of their group.
As Tina Turner would say Robbie, "you're simply the best".
I'd be quite happy if his goalscoring record is never compared to Bobby Charlton's again, although I'd imagine there's a few England players thinking "I have to break Robbie Keane's record" now instead of "I have to break Bobby Charlton's record"!
Bobby Charlton is old-hat. Jon Dahl Tomasson, Zico and Adnan al Talyani are next up for Robbie's rear-view mirror. Yeah, Adnan al Talyani bi**hes!
That's a great list. Amazing to look at the likes of Bum-Kun Cha, who got 55 international goals by the time he was 25, and was never selected again after he moved to the Bundesliga bar a call-up for the 1986 World Cup. Similar story with Puskas and Kocsis once they left the Hungarian league. And how many goals would Kazuyoshi Miura have if his international career lasted as long as his club career (1986 to present)?! Or Gerd Mueller if he hadn't quit international football at 29, when he had four more 20+ goal seasons in the Bundesliga left?
Robbie is the top scorer in our group on 5 goals, and third overall in the qualifiers, behind Mikael Forssell on 6 and Miroslav Klose and Klass-Jan Huntelaar both on 8
Poul Nielsen's record for Denmark looks very impressive. He was incredibly prolific with 52 goals in 38 games; a rate of 1.37 goals per game.
Although when I tried to find out a bit more about him, I realised he played at a time when teams lined out with just two at the back and scores like 7-3 or 8-2 were par for the day. Sophus Nielsen, for example, who played in the same Denmark team as his namesake between 1910 and 1919, scored 10 of his 16 international goals in a 17-1 victory over France at the 1908 London Olympics. I'm not aware they were related or anything.
51 goals and Robbie Keane still doesn't know how to celebrate properly. That made me laugh this morning.

nice little write up on Keano.
Looked to me like he was going to do the old-school cartwheel for the 50th but Andrews came over too quickly, so he couldn't.
How great would Robbie to Fulham be, linking up with Duff and Jol. Playing for a small market team that he could be a big name for would be a perfect fit for Robbie too.
As well as his goals, his work rate and pressing was great the other night. Doesnt get enough credit for pouncing on the defenders error so quickly that led to the second goal. My only qualm would be for the Andrews free kick I think it was that the keeper spilled, really either Keane or Cox shouldve been right on top of him to finish the rebound home.
Yep, "anticipating the mistake" is a key part of football. Robbie did it well on saturday, and I find it really annoying when forwards don't do it. I think Dr_Peepee here has said the same in the past.
Trap was quoted about Keane in the papers. I know I'm laying myself open to criticism of being a committed "Trapologist" (copyright PO'S) but I find the guy really engaging in what he has to say. Even in his wrong language the way he described Robbie smacked of a guy who understands football. "Great forwards can smell the goal opportunity...".
I'm sure Stan and many far more successful coaches than him understand the banter and a lot of the "football insider" stuff, but I don't think that many really understand the finer points. Stan's mutterings on the telly last week were embarrassing. Maybe they just have a load more footballing cliches in Italy.
I thought the same when I heard about Jol this morning. 6 goals in his last 4 ain't a bad shop window performance from Robbie.
He's looked really sharp and alert these past few games. Totally agree about that shot the keeper spilled though, and you could see they were both pi$$ed with themselves too.
We've done well enough out of 'keeper errors in our last few games. Let's not get greedy :)
has jol come out and said he was interested in signing keane or is it more a case of people just putting 2 and 2 together. would be a great move for him, decent prem side and in london to boot. not sure a striker will be his priority thay already have zamora, johnsen, dembele, gudjohnsen and dempsey who could prob be classed as more of a midfielder. keane on top form could keep any of them out of the team imo though
I met Eidur (first name terms) the other day, he was out jogging around the local lake.
Once upon a time he could have jogged across the water.
Could be happening which would be great news!

We did a massive post recounting all Robbie's goals, if anyone is interested (and I know you are):
