Hendrick played an absolute blinder tonight - defensively and offensively.

Drove forward regularly without shirking his defensive responsibilities; got himself into good positions; I lost count of how many interceptions he made late in the second half. A real Jeff of all trades.

He was integral to Burnley's win tonight, representing everything good about their performance.

Could have had two after getting himself into a great goalscoring position, but for some selfishness from George Boyd - who is technically an awful player.

I think Boyd was trying to cross it but it ran away from him.

Anyway, surprised Hendrick didn't get man of the match but I suppose Defour set up two.

He was outstanding in the second half. Defour got the Sky motm after two brilliant assists but Hendrick can't have been far off.

Disappointed I had to miss the match but that sounds like his performances in the Euros. Brilliant to see him transferring that over to the PL.

Lovely finish and Ward was the first man over to him. Fantastic.

Ward was the first man over to him at full time as well with a warm embrace. Jamie Carragher analysed the strategic nudge as well, indicating that it probably was a foul as both hands were on the back of Holebas. It was very subtle though, I don't even think it's a nudge as there little or no real forward momentum, he just stalled Holebas' backward movement. There were no real complaints from the player himself or their manager afterwards as far as I know. I think there would have been a bigger fuss made of it if the goal was disallowed.

Maybe a bit different to his Euros performances where he got on the ball in deeper areas a lot more. This was more workmanlike but he put in a serious shift and unlike some of his recent performances for us, he seemed to be going as strong in the final quarter of the game as he was previously, stronger in fact.

I am not sure it was horrific, although the commentator said something similar. It was a tight angle and I'd say it would only have been a 50/50 chance of scoring from there.

I assume you meant Ward starts for Burnley. McLean came on as a sub.

I'm with OF on this. The defence that you pointed out is a pretty big defence I think. Maybe his first touch could have been slightly better but it was going to be difficult either way. As it turned out I think it would have been a really excellent finish had it just nestled in the corner. One of those misses that kind of looks bad but isn't really. Here-

had a look at Hendrick's miss again, it's not quite "horrific" but it's pretty bad. Regardless of the keeper, you'd expect him to get a shot on target from there.

Anyway, it's a good excuse to share an actual 'horrific miss', from the Serbian league at the weekend. I think it even tops Ronnie Rosanthal's all those years ago!

Even better than I thought, didn't realise he hit it without it bouncing after controlling it with his knee, incredible goal really.

What a goal. Love the way he tee'd himself up with that second touch on his knee. The defender comes across to close the angle but that mattered not as Hendrick just placed it in the nearer corner and the keeper wasn't near it. Delighted for him.

Great control by Hendrick initially too.

Reminded me a little of one of Jamie Vardy's goals for Leicester, not the same build up but the finish to the top left.

When he plays well he is brilliant. If he was consistent he would be a real star

I maintain he's a confidence player. What better way to gain confidence than with that goal? The Euros was similar. Confidence kept Building.

Also unlucky not to win a penalty after an errant challenge from Arter.

I'm not sure who it says more about that you are using a personal tragedy to take an (off topic) shot at someone.

I didn't take a dig at Arter. I said Hendrick almost won a penalty after Arter fouled him, as has been reported in several places. How on earth could that be perceived as a dig? I'm even getting blamed for something Garth Crooks said!

How many times has insert Clark/Wilson/Keogh/Duffy/Coleman conceded/almost conceded a penalty being posted on threads on this forum before? This incident's even more notable because it concerns 2 Ireland Intls and was considered notable enough to be included in several match reports. I don't know why I am going to so much efforts to defend what I said because it almost makes me look as if I have something to defend in the first place!

Several weeks ago, Delorean posted that Keogh handled the ball on the line in a match against Sheffield Wednesday and the incident went unpunished. Does that mean he had a dig at Keogh? Course not.

I suggest you grow up and stop taking a paranoid offense at everything.

I can't think of a better goal scored by an Irishman in the EPL. I'm sure Keane and Duff scored some spectacular goals and Irwin some great free kicks but Jeff's is right up there.

Interesting. It has to be up there, they don't come much more spectacular in terms of the finish and he gets huge bonus points for the way he set it up for himself.

Was this Rory Delap goal in the Premier League?

I think this might have been Irwin's best but it came in the F.A. Cup. He got some nice free kicks alright, notably in the famous 3-3 draw at Anfield but nothing that would come close to Hendrick's. He also scored this nice one against Spurs in the Premier League but more because of the Cantona pass.

This is possibly Keane's best, technically amazing. I remember he got a brilliant one for Spurs against Everton too with the outside of his boot, might have even got a hat-trick the same day.

Either way, I'd prefer to score Hendricks over all of these but possibly Murphys as a team goal.
Scored one similiar to Hendrick a couple of seasons ago but the ref said that I used my arm to control it. Lies. We were 5-0 down at the time.
