Leading batsman dropped easily when past the half-century - reminiscent of O'Brien being dropped against England?
Still ten ahead after 34. But WI had one more poor over and then started racking up the runs, so we need to start going for it soon enough I think. Don't know if it's tactically worth losing the wicket of Wilson to get O'Brien in at the crease?
Nice from Wilson just when the commentator thought he was on the ropes
Yeah - 6, 2 and 3 in consecutive balls from Wilson. Can you try that again? :p
Make that 6, 2, 3, 2, 2, 4, 4 in consecutive balls from Wilson! This is really on now.
What an over from Wilson. Brilliant stuff.
******. Great innings from Joyce. Touch and go now.
This is it now. Wilson finding his stride and KOB coming in. It's still just about possible.
Thats put a bit of a dampner on the chase.
Can still win this. As long as Wilson stays in they we have a real chance.
is this Wilson's first innings at the WC?
Oh Well. And a contentious decision.
Good riddance to Sammy.
Good while it lasted. Let's hope we can beat the Dutch/give the Saffas a tight enough game to push for a climb in the next rankings.
But that Banglas game in terms of this and progressing to a Q-F. now or in the future is going to haunt this time round.
Another England game going to the wire - Bangladesh need 17 from the last 21 balls to win.
Edit - make that 12 from the last three overs. 1/3 favourites to win. Two wickets left.
England lose. They're very lucky they beat South Africa now.
Just seen the last few innings (is that what u call them?). Jeez the pair were banging them 4s all over the place. Great world cup so far, enjoying this game of cricket much more than I had imagined I would!! Also find all the cricket commentators - sky/star/espn are top drawer, excellent, humourous, insightful and much better than the dirge we get for football
That was the power play. In those last few overs, Bangladesh had to use their power play and they duly buried England.
Does that take anything away from our achievement in beating England?
A terrible mistake today, was not taking the powerplay when we were on top. The Windies took theirs at the right time, (35 Overs) we took ours when most batsmen were out and was too late to make a meaningful difference.
Another error was a dropped catch by Stirling with Pollard on 19. The cost of it was 75 runs and the game. We should have won it, and now we're 6th in the table. :(
I was following it on my phone. It was looking doable at 11am and we were high-hundreds for 3. I came out of my meeting at 11.40am and it looked like it had all gone a bit tits. I think in against both Bangladesh and WI.
Hey, you're not talking to a girl here! Or an American.
We were just arguing over what exactly an ODI is and I stick to my guns that 20/20 is known as 20/20 as distinct to what is known as the ODI format of 50 over cricket, even though both are played in one day. The key is the "I".
Anyway, isn't there also a 4 day format?
I'll let you away with confusing counties with countries :)
You're right Stuttgart/PC.
ODI's/Limited Overs Internationals have been around for 40 years now, whereas 20-20 as I said above is still at the novelty stage. Can see the appeal of the latter for regional cricket but there is far too much international cricket now generally and maybe the 20-20 format should be reined back.
And not aware of official 4-day international games, besides bizarre matches involving 'England' or Pakistan, except maybe the Inter-Continental Cup??
I think the Sheffield Shield in Australia may follow this time-scale?

It may be, if/when Indian TV (the real paymasters nowadays) get bored with it. But scheduling the next IPL right after the World Cup suggests not for a while yet.
On the other hand, a couple of years ago when 2020 took off, a lot of pundits particularly in England were predicting 5050 might wither away. They seemed to have underestimated its attraction to TV.
Haven't Ireland played some four day games recently? I'm getting a flashback of one at Eglinton with free entry to any spectators. Might have been against Kenya.Quote:

Yes, like the English championship. It's the standard for domestic first-class in most/all other countries too, I think.Quote:

Know there's four-day cricket, but was talking about international matches.
The Kenya game may well have have applied, but could have been just a friendly, or the ICC competition referred to above.
20-20 is exciting but there's now far too much of it and the longer forms suffer as a spectacle.
That was just an attempted example of four-day cricket, per se.
Does it really matter??
The permutations are: If we win tomorrow and Friday, we have 6 points and level with Bangladesh. If South Africa beat Bangladesh, and Windies beat England, Net R/R (cricket's version of gd) will decide whether Bangladesh or us play the winner of the other group in the quarter finals.
SA v IRL 95/4
I missed the first hour. Since Dockrell and Stirling have taken over the bowling, the match has changed. The fielding is excellent. Could be in for a cracker in this match.
117/5.. this is getting very interesting.
I'm not able to watch the game but if we can limit them to 250-260 I'll let myself start to get excited.
Try here for a text link btw. You can minimise the screen and the header still ticks over with the current score. Very handy.
I have one from the Cricket Europe site already, thanks anyway Stu.
Fairy nuff. I must say I find it a far more enjoyable way of watching cricket than watching it on the telly. :p
162/5 now off 34.4 overs.
Need to get both of these out or SA are heading for 275 to 300. If we had Morgan and one more decent bowler we could beat any of these teams. Another very creiditable performance so far.
Looks like its going to rain ? How wil lthat affect us ? A reduced target might be more up our street ?
