Any idea of when it will be played?
Is there really an interest in this after the collapse of the CSL a number of years ago? The relegation would be a great idea, as this was the reason for a lot of meaningless games in the past. a lot of clubs woulnt have the resources/interest to travel every 2nd week:ball:
I think your suggestion is good. Whether it is called a Connacht Senior or Junior League needs to be debated properly given the implications for movement of players within the region and their status during a playing season. The season (Winter or Summer) should also be given consideration.
I feel that certain standards must apply such as structure of the club, quality of players and team, certain defined standards in terms of facilities, and ability to be able to move on to a higher level of football for the club when the new FAI Leagues are set up in the years ahead.
What is absolutely vital is a proper fixtures programme set out clearly at the beginning of the season on defined dates, and not allow the clubs to dictate as happened for the entire duration of the previous Senior League. The idea of 2 eight teams divisions will be part of the key to its success, but is there sufficient clubs within the region who want to take part? I think discussions took place in recent times but there was very little interest. Hopefully it will get off the ground, and give our better younger players another outlet to develop their game to a higher level.
Glad to see this debate has surfaced again, Conn Junior League rather than senior, so we won't have debacle regards players status, be sure of one thing €100 transfer will return in da Mayo League.
Let's hope that Connaught can put some thing together in promoting junior football which they represent
i think it would be a great idea to start the CSL up again, and the idea to 2 groups would great it very interesting !! i think it would also benefit the mayo super leageue, allow the all the "B" to play in it, and it would be a very good leageue, and about 6-7 teams would have a realistic chance of winning it !!
I think its a great idea!
The Michael O byrne Cup was the Cup for the cup comp for league champions in connacht. It is now used as the Galway FA Cup. I wonder will this be taken back as the CSL cup.
Overall I think the CSL would be a good thing once clubs could fund travelling expenses etc.. (which was the downfall the last time)but as far as im aware the interest this year in revieving the league was not there. I know a number of clubs that applied but there doesnt seem to be any news on matters since.
The last time it failed it was not help my the mayo clubs who op-out to play what appeared to be attractive is now know as the Super League.
This was set up by The Mayo League to attract back its clubs.
How ever there are number of clubs who may have a rethink, if it was to return to the surface.
does anyone know whether the draw been made for the first round of the fai junior cup for the mayo region yet?is it due to start in two weeks time (sept 16th)or am i wrong?
The super league is wide open now as ballina town lost to ballyheane 2-0, nice to see crossmolina record a win to make things interesting at the bottom of the table, celtic hammered claremorris 5-1, erris also won today.
It would be true to say that I have to agree with you, but grounds and conditions is up to each league. any changes would need it support from with in its own clubs
However the Connaught League could set higher standards, but in doing so it could end up with a league without its best teams.
Not EVERY League have the same conditions as ie. own there own grounds, or may not be in the position to get the land required. That is why some grounds are poorer than others, each league is charged with promoting football.
Its upto the foundations of football to make sure they are supporting Junior Clubs.
It is this area of the game has been let down, however the F.A.I. are moving in the right direction, but this is going to take along time for monies to pass down to junior clubs,as they sit at the bottom of the ladder.
So at the end of the day its down to each and every club to take on the responabillity of its own affairs.
ITS a funny old game, sometimes I wonder how some results are churned out, last week Ballyheane get roasted by Manulla. You would have thought you could put your house on Ballina..Not even Tom Kelly or Mossy could figure this one out. All I can do is link up with the two in Rocky's and see could we get a handle on it.
But what ever we conclude Well done to the Heane Army for causeing the upset.
And I can only say Westport must be happy and a winners medal will go to Ballintubber, by the man we all love!!!
Think it will be the 15th/16th September when the 1st Round takes place. The Munster area kicks of that weekend so I'm assuming the Connacht area will be the same weekend.Quote:
hat week is youth weekend in the cup,so its highly unlikely to have junior cup on that week end its than likely would be the week after.

anyone have the Galway section?
How good are Bangor Hibs. What is their pitch like. I know it is a long way from Cross. Is there a longer trip possible in this cup?
They're pretty good allright, very difficult to beat at home (still unbeaten there this season), pitch is quite narrow but quite good all the same. They play a good passing game and in Mikey Sweeney they have one of the best young strikers in the division.Quote:

just looking at this weeks fixture's,its goin to be a very tough day on sunday for celtic, all team's A-B-C all playing at the same time, even for a big club like celtic it will be hard to feild 3 strong teams at the same time!! and the u-21's playing on monday night..
And 6 lads away on a stag, we asked for a deferral to either Sat or Sunday morning but we were told no games were to be changed, then we heard that the Fahy V Bangor match is changed. Not too happy. Going to be v hard to put teams together.
