I don't know about that. There'll always be one or 2 that go over the top with every player though.
ahhh dont be so hard on yourself Eirebhoy!!!
:) I probably mentioned McGeady's name more than anyone on this forum but I never went ott with him. I don't think so anyway. ;)
You can't just dismiss anyone's achievements in the SPL, just as you can't state them as definitive proof of quality either. It's obvious that, say, Nakamura and McGeady are more gifted than almost anyone else up there though.
There have been plenty of players who did OK in the EPL or other decent leagues who have flopped in Scotland. As far as I'm concerned I think it's a good place for a 20/21 year old to be doing well, especially with European experience. He has already shown he has great talent and great potential but has plenty to do to establish himself as an international.
I think to rely on him to get a grip on a game for us is daft, but we could get a lot out of him if the rest of the midfield has already got a grip on the game.
McGeady would probably do very well in a Hleb-like role for Arsenal for example but would be anonymous at a Wigan or Bolton.
I think that was the a bit of the problem in eastern europe, he was isolated and no support so the usual running that he does, ended up with him ALWAYS losing the ball as oppossed to every second or 3rd time like we saw at the brazil game at home. I think you summed it up very well.
You Tube his name and you'll find all the clips showing him against top class club sides. He is still learning Paul and has come along way. To quote Beckett:- "ever tried, ever failed? no matter, try again, fail again, fail better". Mc Geady understands that it is very important that you got to fail to succeed. His mistake while occuring less and less are making him into what will be one of the best. He will be a better player than Alex Hleb eventually. He was our best player against Brazil. He has had a few bad games in a Green Jersey but that will go down to experience.
Did he really lose the ball every 2nd or 3rd time against Brazil? I thought he kept on to it very well.
Against Brazil he was obviously excellent, but I do sometimes worry that whilst he has some pace, he doesn't have enough pace to escape the last man and has to use other techniques in order to do so. This was evident against Brazil. Also, rewatching a bit of the recent Ireland games, Andy Reid and him are closed down by 2-3 players very quickly or otherwise marked tightly.
That what happens to the best players. Rumour has it that Celtic have employed a French speed coach to work with him??
Yeah I heard that on here a few months back. His pace is the only thing that worries me. He has pace, but just not a huge amount of it. If he is changed from a winger into an "attacking midfielder" as he says he wants to be, then it wouldn't worry me as much. When I first started watching him I thought that this would be his best position and where we needed him the most as at the time we were really lacking creativity.
EB, id have to watch it again but i can remember clearly on 3 occassions where he ran diagonal in the second half and lost the ball. not to mention a good few stray passes.
anyhow im not denying he had a good game, but it could have been a good bit better too if he had used his loaf a little more.
I did watch it again and I just can't agree. Gave the ball away less than most of our players.
Tubridy Tonight, now.
tubridy asked hunt about stephen ireland, hunt replied well hes a munster man like myself, :p isnt hunt from wexford????
poor fella was pure nervous, ,my girlfriend who knws nuthan about football asked me was he a retard

Initially I thought he just wasn't the sharpest tool in the box ...like say Robbie. But the more he spoke I began to think he's actually a bit smarter than that but just not particularly eloquent. He also appears to say virtually everything he thinks. :D
I was quite pleasantly surprised Tubridy asked such football related questions, didn't think that was him.
But at least he told Stan what we all thought, DONT GO ON REPUTATION!
And felt he didn't get a fair bite at the cherry under Stan.
I'm worried that the comments he made about Ireland are the sort of comments that would put him off coming back. He said in effect that he was going to get a slagging when he came back about what happened in Slovakia.
There's nothing wrong with that but I feel if S.Ireland is tentative about returning that won't help. But if he is put off by that the lad needs to get a life.
By the way it showed Ireland's range rover again on the show last night. Another embarassment for Mr. Ireland outlining to all the Irish public what a sap he is.
I could of sworn hunt was from tipp?
Thats Shane Long.
oh yeah your right
I think theres a repeat of Tuberty Tonight on Sunday nights for anyone who did'nt see it
Should be on rte.ie in the next day or so here: http://www.rte.ie/tv/tubridytonight/
Was he P1ssed?
He's very opinionated. to be fair to him he's passionate about playing for Ireland which can' be said for a number of players.
I wouldn't have thought so. I was actually trying to check his eyes for dilation to see if he'd been overtly availing of the green room complimentary bar but I wouldn't have thought he was ****ed no. No slurring. Some occasional "ticking" and eyes darting but I'd have thought that was nervousness.
I wouldn't say he is thick just not very eloquent, good point about Stan picking players based on rep rather than form and at least he was honest enough to admit that Ireland could expect a bit of slagging if he came back, glad to hear he has his priorities right too with football 1st, marriage 2nd even if it wasn't the smartest way to put it
he was very nervous and i dont think tubridy gave him a great interview especially quizzing him over the Ireland affair - what did he expect him to say
I don't think Stephen Ireland should be slagged off if he comes back. O.K. inventing fake dead grannies is not the cleverest thing to do but ffs people forget his partner had a miscarraige and that is not as easy to deal with as people think believe me I've been through a couple of them in the last couple of years.
