I'm correcting two mistruths, that's what I'm about. There was way more than 350 United fans in Sligo on Saturday. Speak to your own SLO, our allocation of almost 500 was close to selling out. Maybe your club made that up to drive more sales...? Perhaps 100+ GUFC fans stayed at home.

I've been to the Showgrounds enough times to know that we've brought crowds of around 300 several times. I was in the seated area and it was packed, and there was loads of people in front of the stand at the railing, and then down along the side to the goals. Thankfully there were no 30KM breezes on Saturday to get this one called off.

Haha whatever, we have very different recollections of events clearly so we will leave it at that. Maybe have a chat with your own SLO about why he is sending messages of low ticket warnings to United club officials the night before the game if he's making it up. Bizarre behaviour.

I sit directly across and I don't care about what was said by the Slo, there was no way was there close to 500 Galway. There was actually some spare seats top left near the fencing. Derry had the biggest away support in showgrounds this season of about 450 and they filled a line all along the open section. By the way there was no official segregation in Showgrounds until the season of 2006. Away support generally would mill around the railway or bottom of Jinks avenue before then.

They also have toilets in a prefab also which are a similar size to the ones in the away section at Terryland. Also unless every single seat has been broken in the 4 home games Sligo have played (prior to Saturday) since I was there in the last game of the season last year then that�s a vast exaggeration

Crowds across the country tonight seem to have taken a hit across the board with the weather.

4,723 at Pats Rovers. The tickets were totally sold out a week in advance so you�ve the guts of 600 people that paid for one that didn�t show up obviously due to the rain, likely mainly families with kids etc. Nights like tonight really highlight how poor the spectator facilities are particularly when it�s wet, with most of the ground uncovered

I cant disagree with your general point but all-seater covered stadia are not all rain proof. Im sure many of us have been soaked in Tallaght and Croke Park, I certainly have and in other modern stadia. Raincoats and accepting that outdoor spectator sports are not always comfortable.... Im not being cantankerous, I just think some times there's too precious. If we were in Southern Spain it would be no cover from the sun.

The weather evidently put some people off Richmond. The game was billed as a complete sell out but 4723 was the final number. Still very healthy but a good few hundred off what it would have been otherwise.

That�s true, even the likes of Galway and Waterford which are near enough totally covered were well down on crowds even with empty seats in their covered stands. Obviously people deterred by not wanting to get wet going to and from the car. I can�t relate myself having spent nearly 3 hours stood on the Camac last night but as you say people can be precious

I do laugh sometimes at people when they go on about the rain in this country when you look at some of the conditions American sports fans sit in during winter,I think it�s just excuse for people tbh,each to their own I suppose��

In a place like Galway, where it rains 300 days a year anyway, yesterday was one of the wettest days for 6 months. There's rain, and then there's whatever yesterday was... 12 hours of rain in Galway City will inevitably knock several hundred off the gate.

That is why traditionally soccer matches used to be played at 9/10 at night (like with the SkyPL - TV changed that).

I cant think of much much more enjoyable than watching a game under floodlights in 20c+ with a cool pint, in Ireland though that would probably be seen as disrupted Friday night pints lol.

I can understand not taking famalies out in poor weather, but we do complain an awful lot, and on things that are par for the course everywhere. As Joey mentioned, people in other countries have to brave a lot worse. Its like travel complaints, yes im sure its a nuisance for clubs and fans that have to do more than others but its a small island - Cork v Derry would be a High School local derby in Canada.

Cobh were expecting their lowest league home league attendance so far, after their recent run of three defeats and with the weather forecasted only 337 turned up at St. Colman's Park!

Anyone know if UCD had anyone or away supporters there?

The attendances haven't been huge. They must be losing a ball of money but who isn't I suppose.

One way of looking at i guess
Cobh spending big & have a decent team and quite a high profile management team there so that attendance has to be highly disappointing for them despite the weather.
Best I stop typing before I mention McDermott and how bad he is at team management.

Yes, reports indicate that Dundalk had very low attendances, potentially as low as 200, before Stephen Kenny took over as manager. This was particularly true before Kenny's arrival, with a final home game reportedly having only 226 spectators. The team was also narrowly avoiding relegation at that time.

Seems to have been a feature at all clubs at one time! :confused:

2012? Its a bit more complicated with that season in isolation!! We avoided relegation by play-off and Monaghan United withdrawing from the league.

Lets not get in to a pishing match on base figures as context is relevant. Dundalk fans were protesting ownership funnily enough. Cobh drop off in a matter of a games, weather and results related for a side still at the business end of promotion is exceptionally fickle.

A dead rubber game for a club that hadn't won a league game since May, that was in a playoff four days later, that was likely fielding a team of kids. It was a freak occurrance. Still an embarrasing attendance none the less.

Having been there a few weeks ago it's very very easy to see why they aren't getting bigger numbers
