I've unfortunately missed the last two games (maybe should stay away more often if results keep going like they have) but while I haven't seen much of O'Brien, I couldn't agree more about Sean Moore. What a pick up he's been since the summer window. A cracking wee player. Goes without saying that Doran is going to be very tough to hold on to, but here's hoping that Groves' re-signing early doors can get us ahead of a few other teams who might be sniffing around one or two of our lads.
Terrific again last night.
I've been the first to say the playoff run is dead...but now the gap is 6 points to Treaty with 3 games left. We play Treaty next, beat them and it looks a lot less impossible than it did a few weeks ago. Treaty also play Wexford the final day while we play Athlone. Still doubt it'll happen, but still being in it with 3 games left is some going
Halwax was playing for the 21s at the weekend. Between that and Moore having the nod ahead of him the last few games I'm 95% sure he'll be gone in the winter. Wonder did something happen behind the scenes, it has that air about it. Cuz he had become solid throughout the season before suddenly being dropped
Wouldn't surprise me if that's what it is. Get Moore bedded in now rather than later. If so then good on Grovesy for doing that, dead right
Meant to say earlier these Moore signings that we made in summer are they related at all?
Gonna guess they aren't. Been a while since we've had a decent pair of brothers at the club. Don't think we've had one as good since the Manley's. The Adeyamos (one in particular) didn't hit the same heights
Its showin my age a bit but the best pair of bros I ever seen play for us was Vinny and Paul Perth. Vinny is self explanatory Paul I rated highly but age ruined his career early. Both were midfielders. After that would be Leo and Mark Devlin two locals one a midfielder and one a winger! In recent times the two Roches played for us too but they did nothing much at all!
The two cronins as well
Robbie and John Martin. Robbie was injured a lot but did score the winner in the 2007 cup semi final. John was a good player and a good coach by all accounts.
Collie and Emmanuel James.
There's one rather obvious indicator that they're not.
Hahaaaaaa.
Colm ended up being a waste of a decent player because of his antics, pity about that.
We also had the Verdon brothers too, I'll always be annoyed over Sam leaving and the club saying absolutely nothing
Doesn't matter the circumstances. The man was captain, scored several big goals over the years and was general liked by fans. Even if it's only 1 sentence saying he's gone, that's at least something, but they didn't even bother with that.
Was just thinking how crucial that 2-2 with Wexford is now. Didn't seem to matter at the time as it didn't look like playoffs were doable. If we had held on there, that 5th spot would seem so much more achievable. As it stands our goal difference could be what kills us there
Another cracking win, rode our luck but the second goal was a great move. Really strong end to the season.
The play off race is on again. Need Treaty to not win and us to beat Cobh. That would set up a big showdown on the final week
Another fantastic win! I think its a great achievement, heading to last home game of the season and still with something to play for. Really deserve a crowd on Friday.
Sean Moore deservedly called up to Irish 19s but will now miss Friday. Rule really needs to be changed on that
Sean Moore has been called up for Ireland u19s. Great for him but means we lose him for the Cobh game. Big loss on his current form.
Edit: outspoken beat me to it!
Last home game of the season....or maybe not. Not many times we have won 4 league games on the spin, big ask tomorrow but we should be well up for it.
Ic we're lucky it won't be the last home game of the season just yet...but it's asking a lot to pull that off. I'd love to bring it to the final day and make it really interesting. Should be a good game tomorrow, it has suddenly become a must win for Cobh as well.
Gutted that Bray couldn't do us a favour and keep our hopes alive till the final day. But another really good win to finish off at home for the year. If you told me we'd get 4 wins in a row against Bray, Dundalk, Teeaty and Cobh I'd have laughed you out of the room. Credit to the lads
Great finish to the season. Great to see young lads gaining experience and thriving by the end of the campaign. In an ideal world we'd keep hold of the good ones but as always the finances will dictate.
Some will leave, but it just depends on how many. Every year since the relegation it feels like we lost a lot of our core squad members in the winter windows. I hope this strong end to the season can sway some of the big names to stay
Yeah a very strong end to the season. As always finances will dictate but if we keep majority of squad together we should be Playoff contenders for 2026! Great atmosphere in Section O!
Watched some of it from Lisbon, looked a great crowd in SO. Credit to the young lads and lassies in that group, they've really driven it on. Even at its height we were never ones for producing banners unless it was a huge game, these lads seem to have one every week.
Sad to hear of the passing of Bobby stocks, followed us home and away for many years, was a good character too. May he RIP..
Great way to finish season, come from behind win against the neighbours for 5 in a row. Dont know what our record number of league wins on the spin is but this must surely be up there. Three points off playoffs in 6th. Next years target is obvious , get to playoffs!
Should have been more comfortable than 2-1, fell behind to a wonder goal against the run of play, lost our composure a bit after that but I always felt we'd come back, maybe didn't expect such a quick comeback, a few months ago we were the team who'd collapse at the start of a second half, goes to show how far we've come.
Two really well worked and taken goals, Stefan is an excellent finisher and has excelled as a striker, the pressure he puts on the opposition keeper and defenders in possession is huge.
One part of his hand he'll need to improve is being too slow to get back onside.
Doran and O'Brien sensational again tonight, we simply have to keep Doran, Moore and O'Brien if we want to compete next season.
C'mon De Town.
And that was 2025. Much better the 2nd half and looked much more like we did the last 4 games. And even stole 6th place while we were at it. Most positive end to a season we've had for at least 3 years.
I thought Manny looked to be getting a lot of attention after the match by fans and players. I could be reading too much into it, but I hope that wasn't him saying his goodbyes to the club. Wouldn't blame him for leaving, but it would be very sad.
It's been a pleasure to watch this squad grow and develop as the season has gone on. They were so raw and naive back in February & March, but one thing that I never questioned was their attitude and work rate. As the season went on, you could literally see the improvement week to week, even if results didn't always reflect that. Delighted for Wayne Groves and the players for how the season finished, and it's just a pity we didn't have another 3 or 4 games left to really put the squeeze on Treaty.
A big if I'd imagine, because there will no doubt be clubs with a few more quid than us sniffing around, but if we can hold on to some of our better lads, and add a bit more quality in other areas, I'd be quietly confident of making the playoffs next season. I'm sure Groves is already working on tying them down.
Roll on 2026!
I know nothing in regards to players futures but I think the whole many thing was just the fact he's the local lad and the players remember the scenes after his late winner in the previous derby and wanted him to recreate that a little by waving the Section O flag.
If we're playing a game of read the body language though I did notice one of two things myself.
One player who looked very dejected was Halwax, not sure what has gone on there but hard to see him being here next season, although credit to Kian Moore he's really come on in the last few games.
Dean George seemed to really soak in the applause of the fans as he was subbed off, I wonder was that a goodbye wave too?
Didn't see Fran Campbell at the end either, must have headed straight for the tunnel, he's looked very dejected in recent weeks too, totally ignored the young lads in Section O up in Bray a few weeks ago when they tried to engage with him warming up so I'd say he's probably away too.
Hope that's all it is with Manny, it'd be a failure if he's not kept on.
I'd bet the savings on Halwax being gone, his only appearance was one half with the 20s a few weeks ago. Credit to him though, he came along the first 6 months of the season. And I feel for Campbell, I do like him and I think there's a decent player there, but he has been inconsistent. If I had to make the decision I reluctantly wouldn't keep him next year, but hope he finds his feet somewhere.
O'Shea has been on the bench once in recent weeks and completely out of the squad most matches. I hope that's only an injury worry and not something else
Fairly sure it's just an injury with O'Shea, hasn't been at his best this season but would still be keeping him
