good, hope Hibs can avoid back to back relegations.
On another point in reference to reading previous posts on this thread.
I cant beleive Rineanna who I understand or made up of Shannon Players and Management ( I stand to be corrected ) are leasing Newtowns old facility from Hibs.
This puts the Town back in a 4 club Town scenario which is absolutely ridiculous.
I have great respect for all the Shannon football people who have invested years of hard work into their respective clubs but when is the penny going to drop.
When are they going to provide a football club/facility for the town, youth and decent players of Shannon, one which the football community can be proud of.
One which can produce a steady flow of talent, compete in the Limerick Premier and encourage players to be dedicated to the game.
There is talent coming through but its not been harnessed due to the football environment in the Town.
Would be the third relegation ina row, relegated from premier to 1A and then from 1A TO 1B. Would be very bad to see another relegation!!
Tulla A 3-5 Shannon olympic A. Garry Higgins with 2 and cheeky with a hatrick.
Tulla B 2-4 Shannon olympic B
Kilmallock 4-2 Shannon town A
Who got the two goals for town?
Sean Burke & Darren Griffin.
Been away on hols lads - sorry for no responses on the WW. Cheers for clearing it up Gerry. I've nothing more to add, other than
Don't Panic - I've played my fair share of WW games over the years so can comment all I want..
Lev, I choose to ask qeustions here, not to stir it up, just had no where else to ask them !!! Don't blame me for you mistaking my questions for a personal attack on the club :)
Anyway, back to the topic in hand - 4 teams in Shannon, is way way way too many, about 3 too many really (definitely 2 too many).... Think about it, all clubs are trying to do the same thing, but in competition with a limited set of resources. All clubs want to better their facilities and to improve on all aspects of the game, but it's not possible.... All this bs talk of the biggest club in the town, honestly lads, ye need to grow up. There isn't a big club in Shannon.
Each club has pros and cons, but none will really develop into anything of significance if it continues under the current set-up.
Hibs have by far the best facilities - pitch area, dressing rooms etc etc
Town have a good club with decent underage set-up
Olympic and Rineanna have decent clubs for what they want.
There needs to be 2 clubs (maximum in Shannon), one playing in Clare and one playing in Limerick - that's at a push
Imagine amalgamating the clubs into a single club (or 2), combining their facilities, having real structures. real ambition and a future plan.
Now that our mighty Shannon football teams are back ploughing their respective furrows after a high quality Wesley Webb campaign and the nomadic superstars have selected their clubs for another Season, its time for a reality check.
ST get well beaten by a weakened Kilmallock team on their small little bumpy pitch in the second tier of Limerick Football.
Hibs get hammered by a couple of B Teams in Limericks third tier.
Olympic ( the new improved one ) get hammered by six goals by Bridge UTD.
Shannons Youth Team ( this year provided by ST ) get hammered by 7 goals in Limericks lowest Youth Division.
Yet there is hope as Rineanna ( Shannons 4th Club ) get a few good results in Clare's third tier.
There only laughing at us in Clare and Limerick.
Also heard that Pat Purcell has signed for Newmarket and would have loved to have signed for a Shannon Team but I think we all know the answer as to why he didn't.
so beam me up what is the solution in ? bit harsh on all clubs above with leagues only starting
Pat Purcell was asked by one team in Shannon to sign and possibly a 2nd team ... so why then did he go out to Newmarket if he would have loved to play football in Shannon ?? hmm wonder why especially when clubs in limerick premier had also offered him a nice financial package to sign
Your full of crap talk..If pat Purcell wanted to sign for a shannon team then he would have..Olympic have won 2 of there 4 games.. why not report on there other 3 games.shannon town have won 2 games also why not report on them.how weakened were kilmallock do you know them all personally or something. I heard shannon town were missing a few too.. shannon hibs are rebuilding a team with a lot of young players and players who played 3A last year and they have won a game this year also why not report on that..shannon town youth have won 2 games this year why not report on them...
Keep your opinions to yourself .. I'm yet to read a post where you complement a shannon team..??
Old Git, I do not think Newmarket offered any money but obviously cant be 100% certain.
Second, full of crap, full of fact you mean.
I am only trying to hammer home the point that the number of clubs in the Town is ruining the game in our Town.
Second why not First, typical happy clapper.
I dont feel like complimenting any Shannon Teams because they are holding back the progression of the game in this Town, I'll congratulate them all on their history but time to move on.
As for keeping my opinions to myself, that would make for great reading and debate on any Forum.

Onwards and upwards as they say...
Shannons fourth club - were like Palestine we don't have a home any more!!!!
A lot of Newmarket and Shannon men on the team. A Shannon and a Newmarket man are managing the team.
Players that are enjoying playing for the club and hopefully can return to where they belong in the next few years...
know for definite that Pat is not getting anything financial at all for signing for Newmarket. I do presume that he wanted to play at a decent level , near enough home. I also expect he would love to have played in Shannon but as many a topic here, the fact that there are so many clubs in Shannon robbing peter to pay paul etc, wis possible another reason for signing for Newmarket, a one team town!
on an similar note, how many platers from Shannon went and played elsewhere (outside the town) and one would wonder how strong a single Shannon team would have been during those times?
two feet up
Newmarket have also suffered over the years with players moving to clubs are not joining newmarket?
Rineanna for example had a couple of great seasons with a few local lads who would have togged for Newmarket if no other club in the area .. As for Pat wanting to play at a Decent level fair enough
but are you saying Davy Wall / Gerry kelly are wasting there time playing with their local clubs at at poor standard ... why do these two local / talented lads don't have a problem playing for shannon clubs :ball:
In Fairness Old Git, Davy and Gerry are well past their best at Junior Level despite both being excellent top level Junior Players in their day. Pat Purcell is just out of a long career in LOI and would still be classed as a top Junior player also isn't attached to any specific club in Shannon.
Wouldn't it be great if both Gerry and Davy were part of the same Shannon Club rowing in the same direction and Pat Purcell playing for that club :)
Beam me up is Davy and PAt not around the same Age ?? Did Pat also not play a bit of ball with Park Rangers so attachment to Current set-up with hibs ? Finally if he would still be classed as a Top junior player what the hell is he doing playing with Newmarket ( No disrepect aimed at Newmarket here >> Top Junior teams PIKE / CAREW / JANESBORO all 15 mins in the road :ball:
agree totally on the thought / Dream of the three shannon lads part of the one club.
Brilliant! Keep it coming :-)
What does it matter if they're the same age? Both players have been playing at a different level for the last 5 years. If Gerry/Davy/Pat did happen to play in a "Shannon united" team I can only imagine they'd be bringing experience and leadership to the team because IMO 2 of the 3 players would not start.
Old Git, I am sure there would be a lot more of a commitment than 15 extra mins in playing out in Limerick and Newmarket have enough about them to enjoy football playing for a decent team at a decent facility even though the League wouldn't be anywhere near as strong as Limerick Premier.
First, I was pretty sure Newmarket would not go down that road of paying players, good to hear it confirmed. No Junior team should pay anyone to play or coach for them.
Melon, it's not about their playing ability, as you would like to think they wouldn't get into a Shannon first 11 but they have a lot more to offer these days than playing. They are very active in their clubs and do great work with coaching schoolboys etc, it's just a pity they are swimming against the tide due to the football environment in the Town. That goes for the stalwarts behind the scenes at all clubs in Shannon.
Yeah I agree I've watched Davy training the younger lads, and have seen his training drills with A teams before, its a pity there is no youth team at hibs as I would think they would benefit the most from what he was to offer, and ive no doubt Gerry is the same. Wasn't putting anyone down but the harsh reality is it looks like it will never happen.
Why has nobody signed dukes he would surely be a serious addition to any team in Shannon or newmarket
never mentioned the 2 lads at all. however great for them to be so involved in their respective clubs at this late stage in their careers. as somebody mentioned Gerry is nearly 40 and competing well and gaining his place...davy is heavily involved in the schoolboys of hibs and playing for the A team
I know Pat, had a few offers from limerick, but again its not about money, he was glad to go to a good team, trying to do thinks right. I am sure if there was a few less clubs in Shannon, he would have been seriously tempted to give a year or two service there , seen as he had played with both Town and Rangers at some stage!
On its way to Shannon

Is it the end of sept the deadline to get a transfer?
I see that an effort is being made to get newtown back up and running. Good luck to those involved check out their facebook page newtown shannon. I fear this could be the final nail in hibs coffin if they they manage to get club going again
don't panic .. happens every season rumours / rumours ... and it is easy to open a facebook page ? have they a backer in place / committe / players and more importantly a pitch ? and i would assume going back into clare league ?
if they are genuine good luck to them but alot of hard work to get Newtown up and running again >. i may be wrong but dont current hibs committe have the rights on newtown / park name as part of amalgamation.
Can't see hibs having a right to the name. As for the rest of it only time will tell. If the people involved are hard working and genuine newton will be a bigger club than hibs if only on the pitch. I personally can't see hibs seeing out the season and if newton takes off can't see them having a junior team in the foreseeable future
Lads, really not sure what to make of this, I understand that people would like to see Newtown back but where were all these people when Newtown really needed them 6 years ago just before they had to fold? Seriously? It certainly was not GOOD TIMES 6 years ago!!! Newtown won the Clare league last in 99/2000 season and let me add with GOOD PLAYERS, they are all gone and now there are no good players left in the town bar 1 or 2, All of a sudden there is loads of interest?? At the moment JUNIOR football in Shannon is not very good to say the least, too many teams is a point that keeps being mentioned, So add another team and that will fix the problem?
sure they may as well change hibs name back to newtown and go back to the pitch as ballycasey......nothing different really, just muddying the already muddy waters of Shannon football
Great idea Lobster. Imagine just trying to do that instead of all the bs talk about another club being set-up.
Can't believe the naivity to people on these forums, and just in general. Shannon Football is not in a good place, another club will only help make it worse.
Football in many places is in a bad place, it's hard to get good, committed players these days.
Shannon only big enough for 2 clubs at best, 1 in Clare and 1 in Limerick. That way there would be some chance of stability and progress - otherwise nothing will change and the ever decreasing pool of talent will continue to ebb away... Slowly but surely the interest will decrease and it will just get worse.
the more i think about it its absolute madness, on the face book page i see all the good old reliables posting there tripe.
