Hmm. Just conceded a long-range goal against Inter where he reached out with the wrong arm - he should have used his left, the one he dislocated the shoulder on.
You mean this one?

He would need to have his arm pulled a yard out of it's socket to get to that one.
I don't' think any keeper in the world would have saved that.
He doesn't look to clever in this one but there is not much you can do when it takes a deflection like that. He had to try to cut out the cross

Well I don't blame him for not getting it, just that he led with the wrong arm. Suggests he may not be fully comfortable yet.
He has a bit of a habit of that. Henry's goal in Dublin and a few other occasions I can think of at club level.
Christ that was one hell of a strike, No keeper wouldve saved that. Hart considering a loan move again according to todays paper, good news.
I just watched the clip fotr the first time - I dion't think he did lead with the wrong arm. His "top" hand might have got high enough, but wouldn't have got across enough. Great shot, Given blameless. I wouldn't fault him for the second either - he was committed to cutting out the cross. Shades of Mendietta again...
I didn't think Harte covered himself in glory for the first goal.....

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will ask Manchester City to give him keeper Shay Given - after being warned off his team-mate Joe Hart.
Hart looks set for an incredible week for both club and country with managers Roberto Mancini and Fabio Capello ready to make him their first choice for City and England.
Wenger is desperate for a new number one and his sights are now on City where Republic of Ireland ace Given is facing life on the bench.
Given would leap at the chance of joining the Gunners, probably on loan, if Wenger gets the nod from ambitious City.
Was Joe Hart really that good on loan at Brum last year?
How can Mancini justify dropping Given?
well he does happen to be like the manager so he kinda has got to see how each is performing in training and he obviously feels hart warrants a place in starting line up. birmingham had an unbel defence last year which he was a huge part of. sadly shay(one of my fave players) is not seen in the same light and will have to move on as we can't have our best player sitting on the bench in the prime of his career.
If this is true, and shay goes to arsenal i'd be delighted. Champions league, and not dealing with that club of madness.
I can't imagine that Shay will be content to sit on the bench. I wonder will he fight it out or seek a move elsewhere?
according to this article in the Independent - http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/f...t-2047215.html - it appears to be Given as first choice
Quote:
The Italian suggested he "has an idea" which, of Joe Hart and Given, is his first-choice keeper – it appears to be Given – so another Englishman may be unhappy.
Every different newspaper seems to have an exclusive source that's told them one of the two keepers is definitely first choice. Mancini probably hasn't made up his mind yet, but Hart is probably still ahead despite his unimpressive form.
Given admits he would consider a loan move if he's not number one: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...302889,00.html
Would Man City loan a player of Shay Given's ability to one of their major rivals. (I have me doubts)
If Hart has a stormer for England or even a good game the presssure will be on Mancini to have Hart as the city no 1.
He will feel the pressure to keep the english media off his back.
Unless Hart performs badly for England or city this could be a tricky situation for Shay and as I have already said would city sell or loan Shay to one of their rivals ? ?
I don't think Hart is good enough to keep Given out of the team.
Given should remain no 1 this season, of that there is no doubt. However, the British media are alll going to see Hart as their new number one and will apply to pressure to Mancini to put him in. A number of posters on the english forums are in preference to Shay over Hart, but have criticised Shay's distribution, cant say I ever that it was below standard.
It was years ago but he worked on it. Can't quite believe how anybody could criticise Shay's distribution and ignore Hart's.
Given dropped for the opener. He won't like that.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...EXCLUSIVE.html
Unless Mancini is planning some ridiculous goalkeeping rotation policy, Shay is now effectively a reserve. Demoted for no good reason other than being in competition with England's heir apparent. An absolutley untenable position for a player of his ability and a person of his character. I wouldn't be surprised if he's composing a transfer request as we speak.
I hope Wenger goes for him. He's far too good a goalkeeper to be second choice anywhere.
I'd love to think Wenger rates him. It'd be great to see him at a club like Arsenal, possibly seeing out his career there.
Can't see Shay standing for that. As he said himself he needs to play. Can only imagine he'll ask to move. What odds Celtic will make a move to take him on loan? They need a keeper since Boruc has left.
Maybe Wenger will make a move but he's had the chance in the past to do so and hasn't. Plus would City send Given to a contender for Champions League places? Doubtful.
The Mirror is saying exactly that:
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news...cle554105.html
Not sure Celtic could afford Given and Bellamy's wages though.
Very surprising comment on an Arsenal blog I just read:
I can't say if the guy is right or not, because I don't know, but this could be interesting.Quote:

The Given story seems to be gathering pace, particularly as Shay isn’t “locked ” into any deal with Man City, courtesy of our old friend Mark “shake my hand” Hughes. Given can actually walk any time he likes, if Wenger wants to fund his contract buy out he would be cheaper than Schwarzer. Given wants the Number One Jersey at City, so my guess is it depends on who Mancini picks for City;s first Premier game, It would be a wonderful outcome if Hart starts and Shay says “ok i’m off” but alas Mancini will play Given until the transfer window closes, then move Hart into the Number ! slot/ January at the earliest if Given decides to come to Arsenal. Pity. Wenger should have snapped him up during the Newcastle meltdown. Opporttunity missed/
Trap has urged caution but that's not Shay when it comes to sitting on a bench.
What is Shay's City contract worth?
The transfer fee of £6m, minus time served?
Hes on the bench today. Big mistake by Mancini in my opinion
No chance of Given going to Arsenal (Wenger could have bought him loads of times and has never made a bid). And going to Celtic for a keeper in his prime would be a huge step back. Fulham and the manager who bought him for City Mark Hughes is the obvious destination.
Hes the best goalie in the world so why would you want hart in his place
Have you see the Man City game today?
Hart's having a cracker so far.
Aye he's playing a blinder. Shay to Arsenal!
Shay would of played just as well today!
In fairness, Hart has done everything asked of him. Whats going to **** me off tomorrow is that Harts performance will somehow justify peoples criticism of Given over the years, i.e, doesn't come for crosses, can't organise a defence etc. All myths, I've never heard anybody who's opinion I respect, i.e an ex goalkeeper ever criticise Given for anything. Givens club career will have little or no affect on his Irish performances, the professional that he is, so nobody should be too worried if he's playing for Man City or not. I'd like to see him at Arsenal though for his own personal ambitions.
Edit: Man City's defence has been just as shambolic today as its ever been post Dunne, but Hart won't get the scrutiny in the English media that Shay has until he inevitably messes up when he 3 lions on his shirt.
Sky sports creaming themselves over Harte.
As has been said above Shay would have made all the saves Joe Hart has and he wouldn't have punched the ball straight out to Huddlestone then have to scramble for the save.
It's a marathon not a sprint and as has often been said by greater men than me.
It's all well and good for a keeper when he is busy because it's easier to concentrate. His big test will come when he has nothing to do and has to pull off big saves.
Something Shay will do in my opinion.
