Either you are or you are not. Where loyalty is concerned there is no sitting on the fence. The Concise English Dictionary says, and I quote: “A loyal subject, especially in a time of disaffection”. So your loyal friend will be there for you through thick and thin, be you right or be you wrong. And Johnny Chadda has been a loyal subject to Sligo Rovers since he first nailed his colours to the mast 40 years ago. He has stood by them through the bad times and the good and God knows for the most part, Sligo Rovers have given us very little to shout about throughout their long and troubled existence. Well let us not kid ourselves – our roll of honour is not exactly bursting at the seams with feats of glorious achievement. Just like St Peter, “who toiled all night and caught nothing”, I myself played for quite a number of years with not a winners’ medal in sight. I digress. Down through the years, during my playing time at the Showgrounds and also as a colleague in Summerhill College, I had lots of contact with Johnny Chadda and to be honest never failed to wonder at the sheer tenacity of the man.
No matter what the crisis, no matter what the problem he was always there, shoulder to the wheel, when many others had long since stopped pushing. That the Sligo Rovers Supporters club saw fit to honour the man at the Showgrounds on Saturday night is quite beautiful and right. That they should have asked me to do the honours may not be right, but it has given me a wonderful thrill just when I thought that all signal honours were well and truly things of the past. Johnny Chadda, you have been a good and faithful servant to Sligo Rovers and continue to be so. I wish you well for the rest of your life which I know full well will always have a Sligo Rovers connection of some kind or other.

R.I.P. I didn't know him but I know how loyal he was to rovers and that he was a great man. He will be sadly missed.

I had heard he wasn't well but this was a shock when I heard it this morning. Very sad news, R.I.P.
The half time raffle sales pitch will never be the same. Every home game you could be sure to hear Johnny shouting out '100 euro for 2 euro' on yer way in. LEGEND.

I am deeply saddened by his death. Having had the honour of knowing Johnny personally for a number of years, the one thing that stood out when talking to him was his complete and utter honesty.
He was a true ambassador for Sligo Rovers.
My sincere condolences to his family.

It is with great sadness that we have to advise football fans everywhere of the sad passing of the great Johnny Chadda. The word legend is bandied about all too easily sometimes, but it is fair to say that Sligo Rovers may not exist today but for Johnny's unstinting service to the club over very many years.
His love for the club is renowned throughout the country and his loss will be felt by a huge range of people of all ages not only in Ireland but in his homeland of India.
He passed away today after a short illness and our sincerest sympathy go out to Johnny's family.

I had him for maths in the Summerhill.And that time he was rovers Chairman.And most of the rovers games were played on a sunday.I had him first class on a monday morning.And if the rovers lost the day before you would just shout your mouth and sit down.Because he would sure to be in a s/h/i/t mood.And if they won the day before he was as happy as larry!Top man and a real rovers legend and will be sadly missed around the showgrounds and Sligo town.R.I.P

it is with great sadness that i learned of the untimely passng of our great friend mr john chadda. i cried a tear for him tonight because he had all the attributes of greatness and passion so rear in many a person. he was a lovely gentle man and deserves at some time in the future a great "accolade" from his beloved club. he taught me in summerhill and was an excellent teacher and mentor. he epitamised the spirit and adventure of mankind as his arrival in ireland in the late 50's (i think) took great courage and resolve as this country was on its knees. everybody loved mr chadda and rightly so because being in his presence was special nad he was always very warm and friendly. may his spirit soar freely to meet his beloved wife and they be at home at last. may his spirit always be in attendance at his beloved showgrounds nad im sure now that he has greater control he will always help "the bit o red". my deepest sympathies to his beautiful family in my mind he will never be forgotten

I think the piece on the website says it all really.
On the week of the first ever legends game in the Showgrounds the real 'legend' moves on quietly. To sum Johnny up in a few words is impossible. One of life's finest gentleman. I've had the real pleasure of knowing the man and I'm priviliged to say so. In all my years I've never heard him down anybody, everybody had a good side and Johnny always found it. Looking back over the years the club has had some real tossers as players and indeed managers but yet when Johnny was asked his opinion on any of them he would let his unique chuckle knowing you were trying to draw him out and in his own unique style he would make you see that the intention is always there. It was hard not to warm to Johnny, I didn't know him as the teacher yet he taught me loads. His passion for Rovers had no boundaries. If there is ever a history of Sligo Rovers compiled the name Johnny Chadda will be repeated over and over again. It's difficult for someone like me to imagine there ever been a Sligo Rovers without Johnny Chadda. The man's a legend of that there is no doubt. I like every Rovers supporter will miss Mr Sligo Rovers. The star will shine tonight like every other night but tonight it has being joined with an extra sparkle.
Johnny Chadda loved everything about Sligo Rovers, he loved everybody associated with the club. Tonight the man sleeps but the fire burns on. Good night old friend, sleep well. We'll meet again +

Johnny symbolised everything Rovers and their fans should aspire to .Total dedication,commitment and loyalty to the bit o'red. His passion and belief in the club, evident in his statement comparing Rovers to the glinting star in the morning sky never wavered. If memory serves me right he first delivered this famous statement in the Spa Hotel in Lucan after Rovers won the cup in 1983.
Through thick and thin (and its mostly thin following Rovers) Johhnny kept plugging away to keep the show on the road.
Johnny was a gentleman with a good word for everyone. A true legend and example for all he deserves a special tribute in his beloved showgrounds. Having been a friend for many years I believe he would also regard it as a special tribute if we were all to make that effort to drive on the club to success. Johnny you will be missed. Sincere condolences to your family

What else to say.....was reading his programme piece the day before he died. This particular piece was about how proud he was to represent Sligo Rovers in Haka when we in Europe and about what great treatment he and his family got in Sligo. In the 55 years he spent in Sligo he went from entering the club as outsider to being the most distinguished and respected person to ever represent us. His dedication to the club was unimaginable. Players and managers will come and go but Mr Chadda was a constant. Even in the darkest time he helped the club get back on its feet while also overseeing most of the honours the club have won. Reading some of the tributes make you realize just what stature he was held in. The title of "Honourary President" was very fitting and he always will be. A true legend, R.I.P.
