Rovers are to appoint a new Manager at 1pm today in the Radission
That was quick.
It said on Ocean FM, he is not Irish and he has English and European experience.
Gerry Carr? As a player he has both....
Todays Daily Mirror said it was Tony Gorman with the satan one (Seanie) announced next Monday as new Bohs boss after the board rubber stamped his appointment last night.
Sounds like Eric Cantona!
Put Ollie out of a job though!!
Another Gerry Cassidy recommendation. Apparently he has coached at Villa and Ajax and played with Newcastle !
Last time we had an ex Newcastle player as manager it didnt go too well!
I dont know much about Gerry Cassidy but he always seems to come up trumps for Rovers
...his name is Rob McDonald. Used to play with Newcastle United. He signed for Newcastle in 1989 from PSV Eindhoven. Also played with Besiktas in Turkey. Last heard of he was sacked as manager of De Grafschapp in the Dutch league.
Any hear of a Rod McDonald, that who I heard it was
He was linked with the Bohs job before Farrelly got the gig, IIRC.Quote:
Rob McDonald spent 17 years playing for some of Europe’s finest clubs, including Newcastle United, PSV Eindhoven, and Sporting Lisbon. After hanging up his boots as a pro, McDonald immediately moved into professional coaching, spending six years as the head manager of top-level clubs in the Dutch Premier League and South African Premiership. McDonald was chosen by AFC Ajax in 2000 to open and run its incredibly successful Ajax Capetown youth training academy in South Africa.

Theres his C.V ( in dutch)
Sounds like he could be a man of good contacts to bring in lads from outside Ireland. It looks like an interesting appointment and always nice to see a new face in the league. I wonder if he's the Stuart Baxter/Roy Hodgson type or is he completely crap.
Could this be him......

IMO sounds like an outstanding person to get for the job, with the experience and contacts he has it can only be good for the club. Especially with so many young lads on the books.
I also heard Rod McDonald by text but can only presume it was a typo on the SMS!!
Heard it on the radio there a few mins ago.Im really excited about this guy, seems to be in the know and also v.good with younger players, which we have in abundance.

they seem to think otherwise
I remember seeing a documentary about the Ajax camp in South Africa before he may have been in it, It looked like a well run operation anyhow.
Looks like a good move, hopefully we will have alot of nearly Ajax players to pick from !! Now give him a budget and a good Promo man to generate cash !
All credit to the committee and Gerry Cassidy for the quick action. I believe this man has been at Rovers last few games, as they had spelt a big rat with Connor.
ROB MCDONALDS RED AND WHITE ARMY has a better ring to it
Great news for the club and us guys:) :)
I wonder will the players coming to the end of their contracts get signed up again?
Very positive signing. Looks like the man to bring the club forward.
Did "The Panda" know something-I thought he was on drugs!!
It looks a good appointment if true and well done to the committee/Gerry Cassidy-it goes a little way towards the DOR contract.
All we need now is a good Commercial Manager and a few more players and a wee bit of imagination in selling the rovers to the public.
Champions League-here we come!!
He was also in the running for the Dundee job a while back. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/low/foo...ee/4755979.stm
The worlds media doesn't know where to focus at 1 o clock, Charalton are also having a press conference at 1, maybe they will move it now that Rovers are having it at 1 ;)
Fair play. They didn't hand around long. Sounds like a very interestiing appointment. Do i detect the hand of our old Scottish manager in this? Just a hunch.

DUNDEE ROB RAID
By Euan Mcarthur
UNKNOWN Englishman Rob McDonald is the surprise front-runner in the race to be Dundee manager.
The former PSV Eindhoven player has applied for the vacant post and Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood and Dutch hero Frank Arnesen have given him glowing references.
McDonald, who also played for Sporting Lisbon and Newcastle, was at Palmerston on the final day of the season to run the rule over Dundee in their 3-1 win over Queen of the South. He compiled a dossier on each player and the board now have his CV.
Jocky Scott and Paul Lambert are also in the frame to replace sacked Alan Kernaghan but McDonald's name will come as a shock to Dundee fans.
However, his vast experience includes heading the Ajax youth system in Africa and that would make him well-suited to bringing on the Dens kids.
They must have known Sean was going, in order to have this guy in place already.
Well doen to the Board, they have been on the ball, firstly in getting Sean, nothing to do with them the fact that turned sour and now getting this fella, who has far more experience than any manager we have had in years.
Ya fair play the board. A lot better chance of holding on to players now that this guy is on board. If he's from the Ajax school of coaching then with doubt the players would love to train with him
just came back from the press confrence....interesting man.said a lot of positive things
Are Rovers getting any compo for Connor walking out on the Job I wonder??????????!!!!!!!!!!!
i overheard a club official at the shels game sayin "we don't regret havin him here for 2 years but we glad he's gone so we can get some1 y'know....better". sounds like they got their man. well done AGAIN gerry cassidy.
