Sounds like a wind-up to me.
Dunno about that necessarily. Yer man lives in Dublin and isn't a new poster (in fact, he's on here too, I think). The club's talking about wanting to follow in Leinster's path - family-orientated, Saturday afternoons, etc. I think it'd be a good promo, to be honest.
Did you see the poster on the forum? I'll wear mine and see do I get in for free!
Oh dear godQuote:

This is true. The idea is to get Leinster fans whose season ended last week to latch on to UCD in their off-season. If it gets more people to the game on Friday it can only be a good thing.
I've seen posters in Donnybrook and Dundrum too BTW.
Bolox, it might look good for our genesis masters but i dont see a bunch of rugger buggers chanting trinity shíte, prawn sandwich brigade can go leach on to some other club weve enough of them as it is
If we only let people into the ground who would sing, there'd be the twelve of us plus a few away fans at each game. Anything that boosts the club's local profile is good. Anything that could attract some long term fans, vocal or not, is good.Quote:

And serious rugger heads won't bother coming. There's plenty of Leinster fans who are football fans too - particularly kids. Get them to one game - live on telly too - and they might come back. Plus, we get to make a killing on jersey sales 'cos we know loads of people are going to be jerseyless! :)
These would be the jerseys that O'Neill's haven't bothered making yet?Quote:

I sure hope so. I've been waiting ages for them to be delivered!
Surely anyone in a UCD shirt should also be admitted for free. It's an intriguing if slightly odd offer. Lefty, some of our own such as Bald Student, Student Mullet (not quite as enthusiastic as Bald it must be said), Schumi and Aberdonian Stu are rugby fans. I detest the sport myself but any bodies we can get in is fine by me. The Leinster prawn sandwich brigade you speak of are not likely to turn up. Pineapple is correct, alot of the younger kids are rugby fans too. Leinster are the best supported sporting club (that play in Dublin!) in the whole region. If we rule out overlapping support then we're ruling out a lot of people. My personal feeling is that we'll barely see this taken up by people over the age of 12 but lets see how it goes.
Something official has been announced on it;
http://www.irishfootballonline.com/n...hp?newsid=4730
Look we are in the heart of rugger bugger land in D4. Surely it makes sense to dip a toe into that potential market and get a few more bums on seats even if only for the summer.
My personal feeling is that we'll see a lot of people who would have attended anyway attending in a rugby shirt to get in for free. Since we're getting 4,000 euro from setanta to compensate us for the *cough* loss in gate *cough* we can afford to try to boost the crowd by letting people in for free.Quote:

1 problem. If you get them to this 1 game then won't have another home game until July! :rolleyes:Quote:

Lock the thread and re-open it in a month or two and see if the attendances have risen or if anyone has noticed any increase in our fan base. And is this free in for wearing a leinster jersey a one off?
It's a one-off, yep.
If scarf and jersey sales are up noticeable, it'll have worked! :) Plus, then the people have a tangible reminder of the club at home.
I'd like a free gate some game - maybe a dead game towards the end of the season. It's been done before at other clubs (Rovers, Oldham) and been successful. You get a huge crowd which then drops away a fair bit over the next few games obviously, but you do generate a lot more awareness and it's a lot more likely people will come back.
I'd be much more in favour of that than a free in for leinster rugby wearing people. Why didnt they just have free in for everyone this week would have boosted the crowds even more
By adding a querk like the Leinster jersey you're actually more likely to get people's attention. We're also specifically targeting the Leinster supporting public as people who actually attend live sport in the area and have none to attend this summer.Quote:

I've been asking on a Leinster forum (never thought I'd see the day I'd be posting on one!) if anyone noticed the advertising and one poster said he hadn't but he had been handed a flyer offering a fiver off if shown on matchday. It seems we're going all out with this one.
At the Munster v Perpignan game reading in the programme about the 10 year tickets to new Thomond Park stand - guy behind reading it over my shoulder & remarks "...jeez you'd have to go to a lot of games for that..." (ticket entitles to 3 ERC & 4 Celtic League match tickets + option to buy others...)Quote:

So you're going to let a bunch of glory hunters in for free wearing the shirt of a team that plays another sport, but charge the usual bunch of Derry fans who make the 8 hr round trip to Dublin 7 or 8 times a year 15€ in - way to reward loyalty and passion, guys
If the Derry lads want to wear Leinster jerseys, nothing's stopping them. It'd be better than the Superman outfits they usually wear.
This is about us increasing our home support. Derry aren't getting put out in any way at all.
I like Derry anyway, but the fact that it seems to be the most rugby free city on the Island is a big plus ....I can't see them in the national costume of the southside tosser somehow; though they could drop by the library and steal the shirts off the backs of a few Ronans and Conors sleeping off the night before in Bondi Beach i supposeQuote:

I too like Derry and hate rugby; but ultimately this isn't about them, to be honest. This is about what Aberdonian Stu said. Derry fans aren't losing out on anything.
