All the searches suggest that his nationality is Irish.
Sources?

Did a seach on McGoldrick and came up with this

Cathal Lordan?
Found this on McGoldrick

If he is able to play for us,as this would suggest,we should call him up asap for an u19 cap as he seems to be a class act at that age group.
Though he mightn't actually get his game:) with our u 19s
This is from the Southampton FC offical site:
He's a mate of Leon Best's so I could be a while before we know if he is Irish or not
Maybe Livehead knows?

Date of birth: 29/11/1987
Previous Clubs: Notts County
Signed: August 2004
Saints dipped into Notts County’s youth set up for the second time in two years to snap up this young talent in the summer of 2004.
Following in the footsteps of his friend and former team-mate Leon Best, McGoldrick arrived on the south-coast to learn his trade as a striker.
He has already shown the potential to take his game on having made four appearances in the second division club’s first team at the end of the 2003/4 campaign.
A powerfully build youngster with an assured touch he can finish and create chances and forms an excellent link between the midfield and forwards.
pretty sure he's not irish. I was talking to a mate of mine who was at county (hes been released now) around the same time mcgoldrick was there, and he said he never had an inclination of him being irish.
They referred to him on iTV's Carling Cup Highlights as "The Irishman"
1st goal (and where they say it):

Thanks Worm. Another good goal from him here:

He's 6' something... looks a good finisher... FAI should definately make an enquiry.
Matthew Connolly plays for QPR
Surely we should ask Eddie Mcgoldrick to make inquiries
for the craic if nothing else...
"Hey David, Its Eddie"
"Eddie who?"
"McGoldrick"
"yes, speaking"
"what?"
"this is David McGoldrick"
"i know"
"who's this?"
"EDDIE!!! MCGOLDRICK!!!!"
"WHAT DO YOU WANT!!!!!!!"
click.
cut to Don Givens
"our people attempted to speak with David McGoldrick in an attempt to get him to confirm his allegiance but he expressed no desire to don the green shirt..."
Hehe
I imagine more like this:
Don: David, we'd like you play for the Irish team
David: I'd love to but my wife's due to have a baby next week and I can't get be away for so long (this is not true as far as I know, just a legitimite excuse not to play in a friendly)
Don: Hangs Up
Don in the press
"I called him and asked if he'd like to play for the Irish team, he had no desire to travel to Norway or play for Ireland and he hung up on me"
Seems he is eligible

The text is too blurry to read. From the highlighted quotes, I guess he was adopted by non-Irish parents but had contact with his birth mother to find out more about his background and it was confirmed that he had an Irish background.
Surely then the headline should read Pot of Gold not Shock of Gold?
Thanks Fox, I see from that, he's eligible on both counts, blood and adopted, a double eligibility.
Good to see a player just go ahead and get his passport sorted out without having to be asked.
Can't see Keane, Doyle, Long, Stokes, Walters or Cox being dropped for Serbia to accommodate McGoldrick.
I would have said Cox a few months ago but he's playing at a good level at the moment.
Penny for the thoughts of Daryl Murphy.
Just saw this comment on McGoldrick's Wikipedia page , so it must be true! It got me thinking about how many of our current group of strikers have got real pace? TBH, and I know I will be quickly corrected, but none stand out as having this quality which might mean McGoldrick offers something different.
"He's got pace, he can get in behind defenders and can run all day. He's skilful and he's got all the attributes."
Bournemouth captain Steve Fletcher on McGoldrick in March 2007.[40]
I was thinking the same - how many footballers actually have their heads screwed on enough to say
'I'll sort the paperwork and see if they want to call me up'?
Using the (patent pending), Stutts test, he's passed the first hurdle for me: He obviously has an interest in his heritage.
Going only on interviews I've read with Murphy, I'd say he was probably encouraging him to declare, much like Dunne encouraged Clark to declare.
Yep, he's quick and an all round super athlete. Great leap on him too.
Injured. Might not feature again this season.

Of course - I mean he's an in-form striker hitting his peak, who just confirmed his eligibility for us - it was inevitable he'd get injured:angry3:
On a serious note, he's due to be fit in ten weeks, so we might as well ask the question: should he get a run-out in the summer internationals?
I'd worry about people getting so upset about a 26 year old Championship striker getting injured, who's never proven himself at a high enough level, and with absolutely zero international experience.

Out of contention for the summer games.
McGoldrick's goal against Fulham yesterday:

Had completely forgotten about McGoldrick's teammate at Ipswich, Luke Chambers, being eligible for us. Remains unselected (like Richard Stearman, unlike Alex Pearce). Worth a call-up at all?
Being linked with a 8 million quid move to Leicester. Would be good for him and us if he gained some Premiership experience.

Left out of the Ipswich team yesterday and McCarthy has admitted that there is interest.
