We're due to play Dundalk (away) on the 20th of Feb AFAIK. It'll be a case of trying to spot the player who hasn't played for Dublin City on the pitch, worth the trip in itself:D
Feb 4 in Terryland i think.Quote:

There has also been talk of playing Longford in a friendly at home,i think.
We're playing Sligo - our only confirmed one thus far
Distillery away, sometime in early February. Galway at home on the 25th of February. Harps away on the 3rd of March.
We're also playing three other Northern teams away, one of which is Cliftonville. Dates of these are to be decided as yet.
Word down here is that Mike Kerley has 6-8 pre season games lined up for the blues, Cobh, kilkenny,Shamrock Rovers,Kildare,South Tipp district league,Waterford District league.
Not too sure on the rest but if i find out i will post it up!
I'm off school that week:) Might head up to it so.Quote:

March 2nd vs Limerick City, Richmond Park
Nice to see Rovers seem to be turning up on everyone's list of accomodating First Division opposition. At least they won't go ENTIRELY without Dublin derbies for the year! :D
Great stuff - should the present FAI Cup Champions expect a guard of honour from the dundalk players :pQuote:

I'll let Gareth know!!
Galway United FC will be playing FC United in Wycombe on Sunday 12th February. Stephen Lallys side will be based in the UK town for a three day training camp.
FC United are a supporters breakaway club from Manchester United. Formed in 2005, they get crowds of 2,000 - 5,000 for home games. The training camp is being sponsored by the Galway United Supporters Trust.
Interesting move by Galway here, wonder how it might play in the media...and for that matter who'll win the game:eek: Also interesting to note that FC United get home crowds of 000,02 up to 5,000 LOL:DQuote:

They are top of their league by 14 points. Winsford are second and have 3 games in hand. They beat Winsford 2-1 the other day. 4,328 turned up which is a record for the North-West Counties League! They ground-share with Bury and FCUM still have a better attendance than them.
Id say it will attract a fair amount of media attention...especially here in Galway anyway, although i can see it getting a bit of national press aswell.....especially with Nick.Quote:

Result doesn't matter though....its more a team building exercise.
is probably similar to Conference North/Conference South in the UK. Hard to gauge, though.
I would like to think that GUFC would beat Forest Green or Stalybridge Celtic. FCUM operate below this level. An interesting fixture.
I saw FCUM play one of their earliest games of the year against AFC Wimbledon in the Supporter's Trust Cup at the start of the English season. They lost 1:0, but could just as easily have drawn or beaten the Dons.
AFC are only 1 division below Conference South, and 2 below Conference proper. FCUM will doubtless have improved since that game, so don't be surprised if they're no push over. Their position within the pyramid structure merely reflects the level at which they could get accepted - not their standard of play. You could be in for a shock here...
Will have to head-up to that game myself. Could be an opportunity for a Foot.ie London get-together.... :)
Limerick and Galway away are very interesting trips, grounds I haven't been to yet. But playing on a Friday eve makes it difficult do make the trip, especially with the bad public transport (I'd have to go to Derry or Dublin first and then take another 4 hours bus ride.. )
The Galway United squad will be flying to the UK on the 10th of February where they will train with Wycombe Wanderers and watch Wycombe play Mansfield Town. On the 12th United will play a friendly against FC United of Manchester before returning. FC United is an English club that was created by Manchester United supporters after the take over by Malcom Glazer and is currently the fastest growing team in the UK.
The trip across to the UK is sponsored by Galway United Supporters Trust.

Not fully confirmed yet but I read on our messageboard
that theres a Shane Brennan memorial game planned:
Longford Town -v- Athlone Town
Sat 4th Feb 7.30pm, Flancare Park
Our list has been updated - Dundalk moved to the date that sduffy had, plus Harps added in:
February 9th vs Dundalk, Oriel Park
February 15th vs Finn Harps, Richmond Park
Februay 17th vs Kildare County, Richmond Park
February 24th vs Shamrock Rovers, Richmond Park
March 3rd vs Limerick City, Richmond Park
Alot of FC United supporters are unhappy that this match is going ahead (becuase of nick leeson being involved in the club) and nearly 50% of supporters in a poll want the match cancelledQuote:

Galway United
by FCUoM on 06-01-2006 at 19:26
Supporters may have heard that we are to play Irish League side Galway United on February 12th. Galway United were the first club in Ireland to have a supporters' trust. The trust has gone from strength to strength and has a seat on the GUFC board and they are keen to establish relationships with supporter owned clubs such as ourselves.
The Irish League season starts in March and the supporters' trust has financed a 'pre-season' trip to England and the club has asked if we would play them in a behind closed doors practice match.
Karl is keen to take the opportunity to give some match practice to players who have not featured regularly in our first team, and at the same time have a look at some trialists in a match against good level opposition midway through our own season.
Contrary to some views Galway United are not owned by former Barings Bank employee Nick Leeson, the club employ him as a General Manager. FC United has no right to influence the employment decisions of other clubs but we do wish to give support to those clubs who genuinely encourage supporter involvement and ownership.

I don't much about Leeson so I can't really get involved in the discussion on that topic on their forum. Could GUFC lads or any other eL fans register on this forum clarify to the FCUM forum what Leeson's role is in the club!!
Ya they seem to be very unclear about Nick's role in the club.As i said though i cant register on the forum.

have registered and have pointed out that Nick does not own the club.
The perception of Nick over here as a likeable rogue does not extend to the UK.
We'll have to set Aaron and Vinny on them !
You could also tell them that you dont play in the Irish League:rolleyes:
