THE FAI Licensing Appeals Committee will meet today after yesterday's scheduled meeting was cancelled, writes Gerry McDermott.
The postponement was caused by the non-availability of lawyer Martin Giblin due an unexpected over-run in a High Court case he is involved in.
The Appeals Committee is now due to meet at 11.30 this morning in a Dublin hotel.
Although the Appeals Committee only needs a quorum of five from its eight members it requires the presence of legal and financial experts at each meeting.
As Giblin only became aware of his unavailability late on Tuesday night it was too late to arrange a co-option and call a meeting of the FAI's Board of Management to approve it so it was decided to postpone the meeting until Giblin was available.
Last May the Licensing Appeals Committee found itself at the centre of controversy when a similar situation occurred.
Realising that they would not have a quorum they co-opted a new member, held their meeting and awarded licences without seeking the approval of the Board of Management beforehand.
All 22 clubs appealed the decision of the First Instance Committee not to award any licences by the February 2 deadline and they will still find out their fate tonight.
The FAI Licensing Department is confident of having the registered letters containing the Appeal Committee's decisions ready by last post tonight and will then telephone each club to inform them of the outcome.
Thats classic about co-opting another guy last year and it nearly happening again this time! You'd wonder sometimes whose worse, the 22 clubs that fail or the committee that cant even organise their own meetings!
Was told last week by a club source that the only thing we were short of was the tax cert and that's now been sorted.
rumour tonight two clubs didnt get it yet. both dublin and both premie div.
maybe wrong but thats what i heard.

Just to start the updates on the outcomes, Finn Harps have been awarded a Premier Division license on appeal.
Thats official.
Anyone else know how their clubs got on?
TG
Congrats Trevor - well done to all at Finn Park.
Have heard UNofficially that Shels are OK - but still waiting on confirmation
Heard the Drogs have it and heard a rumour that all sides in premier bar one of our european hopefulls got it.
Assuming that Shels are okay as above, are you saying that one of Town, Bohs and Cork hasn't got it, but Rovers have? Even Rovers fans must find that hard to believe.....Quote:

Be fair, the fella's court case overran. That's a risk you take when you have a legal man on the commmittee. There was no incompetance on that issue.Quote:

what does that mean to their european hopes?
Should mean Waterford are going to Europe (only fair solution) but correct me if I'm wrong - are the applications for the UFEA licence still to be applied for - hence this might give Longford time to get their affairs in order.
So have Bray - http://www.braywanderers.ie/news-article.php?id=1594Quote:

This is a common misconception. Whatever happen with the licenses clubs can only qualify for Europe (or for the eL Premier division) on the pitch. So if a club in Europe don't get a license (for anything other than infrastructure in which case they could in theory play somewhere else) nobody else could take their place as they did not qualify for the competition.Quote:

Also applies to promotion relegation domestically. If one or more Premier clubs do not get a Premier license they could be blocked from compete in the Premier, BUT a First Divsion Club (incl the team relegated from the Premier) could not replace them as they did not qualify in competition to play in the Premier Division.
The UEFA and League rules are very clear on this.

drogs official statement
"Drogs get licence after appeal
Drogheda United is delighted to confirm that it has received confirmation from the FAI Licencing Cttee this morning (11 Feb) that it has been awarded a Premier Licence for the 2005 season.
The Licence was granted on appeal following the initial rejection of all 22 Clubs' applications in January. Speaking this morning, the Club's Licencing Officer Jim McArdle said "I am delighted by this result, it is a vindication of what we are trying to do in our Club and indeed what the FAI is trying to do with the whole League. There was a lot of hard work involved in preparing our initial application and in ensuring that our appeal was successful. Our preparations for the new season have been boosted by this morning's news and it is great to see each piece of the jigsaw coming together."
Saints will probably put it on our website next week
Worst website in the league
so the league .loses a euro spot for a year (bummer)
If Longford fail in the Premier licenc ebid but get the UFEA licence will this cover them for participation to play in the Premier??
Rumours from the 1st Div that Dublin City & Dundalk might be struggling?
Also, 2 of the reasons Bohs failed first time around was because their manager doesn't have a level 3 - or even a level 2 - coaching badge, and that there were problems over a tax clearance cert?
All unconfirmed rumours - allegedly.
We got ours as well apparently

Not sure when UEFA will determine on Irish clubs UEFA applics, according to Fintans link Shels will be getting ready for it "soon", but I doubt it will affect the domestic situation as the sanctions to be applied to clubs who fail to get the Premier license will have to be sorted out separately.

no news on other appeal applications from the First Division.
It is believed that Sligo Rovers insistence on completing the appeal forms in red biro, against the advice of Bob Breen, could have serious implications for their First Division future.
reports are that we have ours too
Mr T looking forward to my weekend away in Ballybo. this season.
GUFC got a first division license

Hi all,
Here is official press release just sent out regarding UEFA Licensing
St Patrick’s Athletic are pleased to announce that they have received a League Licence - Premier Division for the forthcoming season following a successful appeal of the FAI Club Licensing First Instance Committee's decision.
Club Licensing Officer, Stephen Connelly, explained: "The process of achieving a licence is not as straight forward as many people believe. A lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes to ensure that the licensing criteria were met. The achievement of our licence is testament to the professional, positive and forward thinking approach adopted by the board, management and staff alike to the running of the club. After the successful negotiation of our main sponsorship deal with Smart Telecom, this is another outward sign of our progress.
"I would also like to thank Bob Breen, Carol Dunne and Enda Corcoran in the FAI Club Licensing Section for all their assistance and advice with our licence application."
Pats got one too

Why are we having to find this out through various club websites? Can the FAI not make an announcement as to who has passed and who hasn't? Seeing as the clubs were informed last night, there's no reason the FAI can't announce the outcomes. But there's nothing on the website, nothing on Aertel, nothing anywhere. Why?
Because they only like to announce bad news about the eircom League officially
Positive PR? Wouldn't know it if it poked them in the eye
Ah now! Have you seen ours?! ;)Quote:
