1-0 Shels at Athlone.
Galway 1 - 1 Bohs
1-0 Rovers
2-1 Galway
1-0 UCD
Disgraceful penalty decision in favour of Galway apparently. A long way off redressing the balance so far this season all the same. Ref having a right mare.
3-1 Galway
2-0 Waterford
3-2 Galway
1-1 Longford
0-0 Dundalk
Now 2-0 Shels
2-1 UCD
3-1 Rovers
1-0 Dundalk
4-2 Galway
3-1 Waterford
4-1 UCD
Finished 5-3 Galway. Great start to the second round of games for us bringing us up to 6th in the table.
Dundalk win 1-0, Rovers win 3-2 as well. We must be on course for the highest-scoring round of the season so far, even including the week Dundalk thumped Bray.
I would like to thank Limerick for giving us Shane Cusack.....
Not altogether sure how Wexford have been hammering teams this season. After they equalised, we played them off the park for the last half hour; played some lovely stuff at times.
Next week's a huge tie now - Harps v UCD. We're now seven games unbeaten.
I was terrified of the Europe possibility after losing four of our first five (including the League Cup). Now I think our players might genuinely enjoy it.
You forgetting Kevin McHugh CD?
UCD have been the best team we've played this season by quite a margin. Fully expect them to push for the title, but if we beat Cobh, we're 6 points clear going into UCD game.
Horrible game at Oriel Park. Dundalk were way below par and Derry played the ugliest brand of football I've seen in a long time.
What did Gary Shaw do to LOI refs this season? Second clear pen not given to him (the second in Dublin might I add!) Pat O'Sullivan got booked by trying to take a quick free kick. To prevent Pat from taking it the ref decided to jump in between Pat and the ball and it looked like Pat made decent contact with the ref. he didn't kick him half enough if you ask me!
Harps seem to be good in fairness.
But our last three games have seen me dismiss Shels, Athlone and Wexford as long-term contenders.
We're improving quickly as you say - seven games unbeaten now - and if we are in the play offs, I think we'll have enough momentum to carry us through.
But we'll see how it goes. Long way away yet. And after four defeats in five games, I was in here saying we had no hope. We're learning quicker than I thought we would though
I actually haven't seen Harps yet but from what I've heard from both their fans and other fans is they're playing very solid football but they're doing a lot better than expected. I've seen UCD a few times, including a couple of matches with the young kids, and there is a real depth of talent there. UCD were always going to have a bit of trouble at the start of the season with a few midweek games and exams going on, but once the summer kicks in I think you'll take control, especially with Mulhall and Belhout there.
Buzzing after that result in Eamonn Deacy Park tonight. Mind you, first peno was a joke decision; and not convinced second one we got was a peno either, think it was the Lino who gave it. Still, back-to-back wins, 3 wins in 4 and up to 6th and
Lino gave the 2nd Galway peno, I was too far away to a have definite opinion of the Garcia one but it seemed a reckless tackle. Not as bad as the Oji sending off v Drogheda in terms of refereeing anyway. Buttimer did well by ignoring the diving of players and their screams as if knifed or shot.
A very exciting game including a fine goal scored by Ryan Connolly set up by Cunningham.
There has been some memorable games v Bohs over the years as this was another.
Great game. I thought our 2nd pen was a stonewaller. I may be wrong but who cares!! :D
You miss the Drogs home game??? Derry were in our faces all night,if they played at that tempo all year they would be up around the likes of Bohs etc
Rubbish game, flat atmosphere, 87 minute deflected winner, 3 points in the bag...not at bad at all!!
Late goals for us against Derry almost becoming the norm recently so i wasn't surprised when we broke their tiny hearts again at the end.Poor performance from us but on the balance we just about edged it.The old "i'll take a late goal of someones arse as long as we win" statement well worth a re fresh because that's the way it happened although John Mountney wont be having any of that :D
Any word that Pats v Dundalk will be on tv? Heard some rumours tonight.
Looks like the guys at Dundalk have created what I now call a "Cork moment". On their twitter feed, they say that Friday's win was their 1,000th league win in the League of Ireland but that it is incorrect.
https://twitter.com/DundalkFC/status/599319410084605952
It was however their 997th league win from 2,284 league games, they have included their 7 playoff games and their 2 matches against Monaghan United (which don't exist in records anymore!) in total league games.
.....
I think that both Galway and Longford gave teams too much respect in the first few games. They now realise that apart from Dundalk and Pats on occasion, there is very little between any of the teams
.Sounds like Galway went for it, fair play.
.Wasn't down there....too many bad memories.
We definitely suffered from nerves and a bit of bad luck in some of our earlier games but we have a young inexperienced team that are growing in confidence and aren't afraid to give it a go. Buttimer made a few daft decisions but I thought he got 2 out of 3 penalty decisions right. First one was never a penalty but we've had a few of them go against us this season so it was nice to finally benefit from crap refereeing. Crazy game but thought we were good value for the win. I'm sure Soccer Republic's experts will put it down to Bohs playing badly, at some stage they will realise that that we have a decent squad that aren't out of place in the premier division.
Who decided that LEAGUE play-off games don’t count as League games.
Neither of the two Monaghan games in 2012 was a win so it is correct to say that the club has now clocked up 1000 wins…inclusive of League POs.
And it won’t be very long before we celebrate 1000 wins excluding PO games!
I would have thought play off games aren't league games because they don't take part in a league system. They take part in a play off system when the league fixtures for every other team have concluded. Playoffs can also be between two teams which can even be from different divisions so surely not a league game in that case.
It is splitting hairs really. Imo the play offs start when when the final league table is decided therefore the the league is over. In England separate play off winners trophies are even awarded in addition to the reward of promotion. Does winning a play off and being denied promotion after winning count? We should get a special golden dvd for that one for showing the leagues crook(s)!
