The Bit O Red Supporters Trust Information Meeting

The Bit O Red Supporters Trust are facilitating an information meeting in the Sligo Glasshouse at 8pm this Wednesday August 27th.
The meeting will explain to Sligo Rovers supporters the current progress of the syndicate drive, as outlined at the clubs recent E.G.M., and what we as supporters may do to assist with meeting the August 31st deadline.

Mr. Tony Magee will explain his accepted proposal for the re-structuring of the clubs management committee and the benefits it may bring to the club in the future.

First team manager Paul Cooke will also be in attending this information meeting.

The Bit O Red Supporters Trust would like to invite all 400 club, season ticket holders and club shareholders ,who may have missed the recent E.G.M ,to this meeting as well as representatives from all Sligo Rovers supporters clubs.

Lads i think this the PERFECT oppurtunity for alot of the people who constantly criticise the club and the way its been run on this forum to come have their say in front of everyone, including (hopefully) our manager for next season and further, plus Mr.McGee whom may potentially be in charge of the people running the club in the not so distant future, a chance to vent your feelings straight to the man. Alot of people on this forum have great ideas how to improve things, so yes, this is the perfect opportunity to say it to the individuals whom,potentially will have a big say on the future of SRFC

How did this go?

Meeting went very well I thought. A very small turnout (30 in total) but very positive in all. Meeting lasted just over the hour and very informative.

Basically the Trust outlined its long term fundraising initiative of the 1000 fans donating €2 per week. The account is set up and all we are waiting for is confirmation details for on line access. We have gone with Halifax as it offered the best business current account in relation to bank charges (we checked out 4 banking institutes).
Next step is get in contact with local media and the plan is to pick a Saturday soon and sort of run it like a mini telethon, what this would entail is having focal points across the county and in town manned by supporters from their area and having the radio station check in through the day to check on the numbers subscribed and how far we are off the 1000 supporters. Also there will be a Platinum and Gold business offer to tie in with this. Looking for 1 business to donate €5(Gold) €10 (Platinum) per week for every 100 fans subscribed. All going well this would result in between €156,000per anum (that’s if we got 100 business @ €10per week) or €130,000 per anum(thats if we get 100 business €5 per week).

Might sound ambitious I know but "aim for the sky or you'll never touch the ceiling"

Also outlined was the trust donation of €4,200 (€3000 from race night and rest from other fundraisers)

Tony Magee outlined the Business Community Club Partnership scheme. It will be 5 business men and 5 Rovers elected reps sitting on a committee with an independent chairperson agreed on by both parties.
The Showground’s grounds itself will not be effected in any way.
The club will still hold it AGM and elect its 16 man committee and from this 5 will then sit on what would be an executive committee.
The elected club members would still maintain day to day running of the football club
The business community involved would select its 5 members from the pool of businesses involved.
Within this executive would be a democratically elected Financial Controller and a Chief Executive.
Also stated was the desire that no interference from any committee with Paul Cooke in team matters.
In the next 2-3 weeks the local interested businesses will meet and this meeting will be chaired by a prominent and respected Rovers supporter known nationally and internationally. Also lending their support is a former prominent politician.

Paul Cooke, Gerry Carr and Connor O'Grady attended the meeting.
Paul spoke briefly and accepted the financial position we are in, spoke of his pride in the players and their performances and although would ideally like to have 2 strikers accepted the financial postion we are in and at the moment it wasn’t possible. He also said we need to tie player to longer contracts and even though some people think this may not be the best policy he quite rightly stated that wages increase each season and players are free to leave when on short term deals.
It was also said that maybe this may be a blessing in disguise the situation we are now in as all structures of the club will now need to be examined more closely where in the past we may have let things slide.

Connor, as club captain, said anything he or the players could do to assist in fundraisers ate they would help no problem,

Gerry didn’t say much but quite rightly said all personal differences must be set aside if the club is to progress.
Widely agreed at meeting that we can come out of this a stronger club.

That's all really positive. Will it be possible to donate more than €2 per week? Maybe give people the option of donating 2 or 5euro a week?

Definitely whatever they wish to donate welcome, €2 would just be a minimum donation

Well done Alan and the rest of the trust. Brilliant ideas there and nice to see the support coming from Paul, Gerry, Connor. Im ****ed off i couldnt make it. Ill definitley be interested in taking part in this and im sure many of my friends etc will be too.
