Former Bohemians manager Pete Mahon has been unveiled as the replacement for Paul Doolin at the helm of eircom Premier Division side UCD.
Mahon, who has been boss of Leinster Senior League side, Belgrove for the past two seasons has 16 matches to turn the student’s disastrous season around as they currently lay bottom of the division.
The Belfield outfit are seven points adrift at the foot of the table and Mahon faces a monumental task to ensure the club’s safety in the Premier Division.
Derry City were reported to be after Mahon’s services earlier in the season before Dermot Keely was offered the job, but he declined instead opting to stay in Dublin with Belgrove.
When Roddy Collins left Boh’s to join English side Carlisle United, Mahon was promoted from his assistant to manager and although the club made a promising start to the defence of their title, a slump in form midway through the season, forced Mahon to resign.
Having led non-league St Francis to the FAI Cup final in 1990, only to lose to Bray Wanderers, Mahon worked with Ireland boss Brian Kerr during his successful reign over the Irish under age scene.
Mahon’s first game in charge sees Shamrock Rovers travel to Belfield on Friday night and the Students desperately need some points on the board in the very near future.
