Bit O' Red Herring

Now in the fifth week after the dramatic news broke that the club needed 130,000 by end of July or the club would no longer exist. All's very quite now?? People have asked the question time and time again as to how the various fundraisers are going and nothing but a wall of silence from the Showgrounds. Yesterday under pressure from the public Ocean FM invited both the Club's CPO and Media Officer on live to answer the question. At the end of it all we the public were left more in the dark after being told 'it's going very well'.
With the deadline now pushed out to the end of August I'm left wondering was the whole episode just another Bit O' Red Herring.

well clubman how much have you brought in? i so far have sold 6 syndicate cards. not boasting but action speaks louder than words. i have said it before unless we go around to the general public and ask we will not recieve. i have even mentioned this to some committe members. some are working hard others need to get off their butts. this time they cannot leave it to the few. the few who have always done the donkey work in the past few years. if we don;t reach the target the committe are responsible as they are the ones who called for the syndicate and therefore are accountable. now take a phot of that one!

If being negitive means not wanting to be treated like a mushroom (fed plenty of sh1t and left in the dark) then yes I am negative but then I suppose in your eyes so are all other Rovers followers.
As for the great work you red arrow do I've absolutely no doubt that you are one in a million.
As for knappagh red.......... having a holiday can sometimes be akin to the great bird the ostrich. A person takes a holiday to forget his/her troubles whereas the ostrich just buries it's head in the sand and hopes it goes away. Either way the troubles are still evident afterwards. Are you on a permanent holiday knappagh red?

red arrow I must admit that I did in my enthusism take a card. I have four lines filled which includes my own name. I have gone to the public but I keep getting the same answer. Red Arrow beat you to it. I think my holiday slipped me up and the fact that we each move in the same circle of friends I suffer because of it.
As for your comment on whose to blame, I can't agree with you on that one my old friend. I sat with you at the AGM and if my memory serves me right you like me had nothing to say during the election of the committee. As silence is a form of agreement then you like me are to blame as to whose running the club. The committee are only there because people like you and I would prefer to have them there rather than do something about changing it. Only when things start to go wrong are the committee to blame. Very seldom do we hear people like you or I heap praise on the same committee when they do something right. Red arrow, my friend, I'd never claim publically or otherwise to be man enough to lace your shoe but I will say I try to do my bit small as it may seem. Maybe if all of us did a wee bit the club we claim to love would not be in the tatterish manner in finds itself, just maybe like knappagh red we have our heads in the sand for too long.

my apologies to you if i am correct in thinking who you are. i am not hear to make enemies only to try and muster up support for the bit ' o red. i would disagree with one thing that you said and that is in relation to the last agm and subsequent election of committe members. i myself would never contemplate in going forward for election simply because i have not got the time. i have done my bit in the past and will continue to do so. however i feel those who put themselves forward to be elected to the committe are making a statement and that is to commit totally to sligo rovers for whatever period of time they are elected representatives and to help out the club in all manners and means. there are a lot of very hardworking people on that committe but is always the few who do the work . there are some there i l feel who have not got sligo rovers interests totally at heart. some of the things i have being hearing regarding operations and work practise within the club are shocking and if it were a properly run business it would be termed as reckless trading. but this just seems to suit some. the attitude is run it into the ground sure there is always the first division etc. i could go on but i am not at liberty to say. the most important issue for any football club is to strive for success have proper disciplines in place and look at all options that can enhance the club by way of generating finance to lead to that success. but then again there are many obsticles in place at our club and have being deliberately put there. the question is why? we have never been given an answerr to that question. a club with circa 13 acres of land , a prime location etc etc. by the way i sold 5 of six of my syndicate cards outside sligo and got help from some very good people. its all about effort. put in the work you get the reward. i would like to get back to the point in my earlier post regarding the syndicate cards . if there are say 80 in issue those who took them made a commitment to sell them. my point is that a follow up by the elected committe (syndicate committe) to those people should now be in progress to acertain how much money is collected so far. it is only by chasing people and putting them under pressure that results will be got. no point in going to people in the last week because what you will get is a poor return. that is why i am saying hose who took them in the first place have a responsibilty to fill the cards and that includes you clubman. i never commit myself to anything unless i can succeed. there is still time if card holders go around to peoples houses they will get a return , if card holders phone their friends they will get a return. if the syndicate committe let the general publin know what funds are in so far they will get more money in. the target is k130 not once have i heard what has being broughfin so far. people like to hear about figures so that they can help to achieve the target. all this is my opinion. i will be only to delighted and relieved if rovers pull in what they ask for and very satisfied that i was able to help. there still is time but only with a big push. by the way i hope we are still friends!

I'd say of all those that are in any way associated with this forum you, red arrow, win the loyalty card by a mile. As I've said before I am in no way worthy to lace your shoe. I'd very much like to think we are friends as every poor sole at least needs one good friend and in you red arrow I have one of the best. Times as they are it's not unusual for some mud slinging to happen. Your thread though a long one and in many ways true I for one can't totally agree with every aspect of your thinking. I don't think you are fair to the members of the committee whom you seem to judge their performance on fundraising alone. Everyone has a talent, yours my friend is no doubt charming the birds from the trees. Even knappagh red has a talent and that would seem he is a master of time management. Good for him! But we all can't be perfect so back to reality. You're reading of the importance of selling the syndicate cards and more so your thinking that the people that have taken a card have made a commitment to sell it. I think you are very wrong to lay such a pressured responsibility on any volunteer. It's a known fact that the era of the volunteer is/has drawn to an end and the reason for this is because people like your goodself change an injoyable situation into a pressurised situation hence no volunteers. Is it not better to have five people volunteer to fill four lines each of a card than to put pressure on one to fill all of the card? The harvest is indeed very rich my friend but the labourers are very few and those very words were spoken long before the existance of SRFC.
When I took the card I in no way made a committment that I would fill it. I took it with the attitude that I will do my best. If every person had signed the card that I asked then I alone would have brought in the 130K. People like you my friend think Sligo Rovers have a divine right to be in business unfortunately not everyone is of the same frame of mind. When people donate money to a cause (at least people I have approached) they expect to know where the money is going and also they expect to know how much is raised. Knappagh red would define these people to to negative and maybe he's right but I believe people deserve to be told the truth. In the real world there would be a weekly if not daily report on how the fund is progressing. Example; we have 30K collected we need another 100K. Five weeks ago there was an urgency to raise 130K by the end of July or the club would go out of business. Am I, as knappagh red claims, negative if I ask how much has been donated to date?
Of course we're friends red arrow, keep up the great work and keep asking the questions. Unlike knappagh red I don't think seeking the truth is being negative.

That is some achievement in raising that amount of money and I really mean it when I say "Very Well Done". As Clubman said you are near the top if not the top of the league when it comes to loyalty stakes.You make the point that unless everybody gets off their backside and help raise 130,000 by the end of August,Sligo Rovers will not exist as a club-how do you work that out?
In another post,you say the figure is made up of a mixture of old revenue debt,current revenue debt and 3 weeks wages to cover the last 3 weeks of August where we have no game.You say in that post that our weekly wages bill is 15,000 euro while the Club have said our weekly wages bill is 9,000 euro(Irish Independant Survey).As Sligo Rovers have to submitt monthly figures,I would be surprised if they owe any current revenue debt.I'm sure there are other day to day running expenses included in there as well but do we really know what the actual 130,000 euro is for or how it is broken down?
Also lets say the Club raise the money,what do we do for the next 3 months?
What are the Clubs plans?
Last year we had the Vincent Nally Syndicate-it's sole purpose was to raise 60,000 euro to bring any additional players that Paul Cooke identified and to pay their wages-So who exactly did Paul Cooke sign if anybody and where did the balance of that money go?
I remember you saying at the time that the future was rosey etc but it seems a bit like Groundhog Day to me.
You also say that some committee members are not pulling their weight,that some people are holding the Club back for their own Agenda and that there is close to Reckless Trading going on at the Club.
Red Arrow you obviously love the Club but can you not see that there are a few problems need fixing before any more money is thrown into this Black hole that some people know as Sligo Rovers.

So why dont you join the Committee and see can you do things differently?

It appears Sligo Rovers is not run too well.We always seem to hear about the bad things-like the A Team for example-we never seem to hear anything positive about the Club.
Is now the time to stand up and say enough is enough-we want change or do we struggle on from year to year giving out about the Committee etc
I guess at the end of the day it is up to us the supporters to try and sort this out but I guess we will still be giving out this time next year and the year after that.

The EGM is called a ”Special General Meeting” I don’t know if this term has any legal implications for voting, etc?
But the agenda is (1) A discussion on the future direction of the club. (2) Tony McGee’s proposal and (3) AOB.
It’s impossible to say what motions if any, will be put to vote.
Tony McGee’s document was printed in the Champion a while back.
It might be an idea to make a list of questions that people here want asked under AOB.

What I got from the Champion was that Tony McGee or the Club(I forget which) was to introduce/bring on board 5 Businessmen who in turn were going to come up with 100,000 euro each ie 500,000 euro in total.These 5 Businessmen along with 5 of the Present Committee (how do you work out which 5 stays) are to form a new Committee under an Independant new Chairperson who is neither one of the 5 Business people or is neither a member of the Present Committee.How do you find this New Independant Person?

Michael Toolans (Our Present Chairman) take on it is that these 5 Businessmen are going to form a Sub-Committee dealing with Finance, I assume, and that the Present Committee are still going to be in place and still making the decisions.I also assume they are still to put in the 500,000 euro.

In my opinion,there is a Huge Difference between both interprations before a ball is kicked as they say.

Exactly -who are these businessmen with 100k to invest. And without trying to be flippant, any businessman with 100k to invest who invests it in Sligo Rovers won't be a businessman much longer. Tony McGee's proposal is total pie in the sky but at least if it is discussed he might go away.
I think what Rovers need to do is work out a budget that includes minimum gate receipts, lotto and normal extra fundraisers like the gold classic and anything the trust might come up with and operate WITHIN that budget. Then we would nat have to be begging from the public every year to keep us afloat and all the signs are that the public is getting fed up with it. If we make more from gate receipts or a cup run that should be put into the development of young players and not thrown on guys with exotic names that can only score in Toffs.

T O'M proposal is a few pages long and i dont have a scanner. I havn't read it lately. Basically it's more or less as you say. 5 businessmen/5 M C's combination.
But there's no mention of the any amount of money as far as i remember.

Sorry Redzer,I thought I read somewhere that it was 5 Business People by 100,000 or 100 Business People x 5,000 euro and that the 5 Business People would represent their interests.
I definitely thought exact figures were mentioned somewhere but maybe I'm wrong.

You may be right about Tonys proposal avvenalaf, but surely it has to be worth trying at least, what have we got to loose.
