Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic, one of the world's most wanted men, has been arrested in Serbia after more than a decade on the run.
The Bosnian Serb wartime political leader disappeared in 1996.
He has been indicted by the UN tribunal for war crimes and genocide over the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica.
Testing the waters with Karadzic to see whether they have the support at home so they can handover Mladic, which would really make it hard for the EU to refuse admission.Quote:

It was like watching a train crash in slow motion. Painfull viewing but should be compulsery viewing in any modern history slyabus (sp ?)

US - unwilling to do anything as it was a European problem which should of been sorted out by Europe but who eventually got involved and sorted it out

I'm in Belgrade at the moment. The family I'm staying with immediately had a toast to his arrest. It's no coincidence that the president Boris Tadic appointed a new chief of security last week. The army were the ones who arrested Karadzic so it suggests he's got them onside which is very important. There doesn't appear to be the kind of negative reaction here that might have been anticipated although preictably the Radical Party have moaned that the new coalition is carry out the orders of its EU masters. Serbia is a long way off EU admission but hopefully this takes them slightly closer.Quote:
