Is Doolin for real

This is some statement - with just 3 players out apparently we have limited options for the Cork game:

"The only absentees are long-term injuries Shane Barrett and Brian Shelley, aswell as the suspended Joe Kendrick. Doolin insists that even if he wanted to change the team, his options are limited. “We actually don’t have that many options really. We don’t have the squad to be making that many changes. It’s pretty much the same base of players playing each week.”

What planet is he on, the squad is massive, he is either thick or he thinks we are all thick and willing to believe any tripe he is willing to dish out. Rather than coming out with bull like this to cover his ass for his incompetence this season , he should try and figure out how to take on the opposition without playing the team like a coward with his super dupper 1 man upfront tactics.

Always like Doolo to come up with excuses- now it's ready made excuses. The guy is in a permanent state of denial.

well just back from anoter snoozefest of a match, Cork won with a penalty but we didnt really threaten them for the entire game. Doolin has lost it, its clear the players arent playing for him anymore. His selections and player positioning are very poor. League over half way through the season - unforgiveable given the players and size of squad at our disposal.

Where to from here, who knows :confused:

Wtf ? Doolin cant get the blame for last night .Both teams were cronic and cork won with a seriously dubious penalty from mooney .Neither team deserved to win that game as both were clueless in front of goal .In saying that the players that finished the game for us were very attack minded .How can we blame Doolin ?

When a manager with as big a squad as yours complains that he can't cope with 3 injuries/suspensions what kind of message does that send to the players who will be playing? If you think that kind of attitude doesnt affect the players I think youre wrong.

Also he left your best striker on the bench, and played Connors ahead of Ewings, who proceeded to give us more possession than Ive ever seen in a game.

We had a left fullback (Cahill)playiing centre midfield in he second half while we had the best (IMO) centre midfield player we have then playing at left back (Byrne). tammboras was a disaster at rightback (where we could have had Byrne and left cahill at left back).

We had a bench full of strikers but played a midfielder upfront (WTF!!)

Team should have been Byrne at rightback due to Shellys injury), Cahill left back, Kudy in the centre as an attacking midfielder and Bates upfront with Zayed - the laying off style of Bates would have been manna for Zayed and Kudy (coming from midfield).

Yes the team as players were poor but that is what happens when they are played out of position, you handicap yourself. Also it is clear (IMO) that the players no longer play for him and are simply turing up - his failure to motivate them is the biggest reason this season that we are now out of the race. What does it say to our strikers whenwe play midfielders ahead of them (Sami, Robinson, Kudy), its clear morale is dire.

Doolin has this team messed up. Not to mention the latest disgraceful issue of jason gavin - how many more players will he run out of the club with his man management style (another issue effecting team moral).

Hell at this point he still doesnt know his starting 11 - that sums it all up for me.

good man sean i see you're yet another well informed drog. did you boo doolo off at half time in the champions league game??? you're right he has to go, just look at his record with the club. the guy has done nothing! get a grip would ya. what do you expect him to do?? of all his strikers none are scoring or fit enough to start games so he has to go with what he see's as his best starting 11. if it was as simple as playing 4-4-2 he would do it no question. he's won everything as a player and manager in ireland so you'd half to assume he has more of a clue about management than you. he's on the trainning ground everyday with the players and can assess them properly.

as for criticising him over the gavin fiasco, this is not the first or last time he wont take **** from a player. he got rid of fahey and bird before which in both circumstances was the right thing to do. he's right over the gavin thing as well. gavin had george o'callaghan-esque ideas about hinself and his role which culminated in him ebing banned. anyway gavin isn't liked in the dressing room anymore and the team is much better off without him.

Was very surprised when Byrne was moved. He had kept Kearney and Murphy very quiet. First I thought he was going into midfield which would have made sense.

Kearney and Danny got more joy off Tambouras but we didnt really create much of it.

Doolin still has one of the best squads in the league(with Pats and Bohs) as he did last year. Theres just actually some competition this year.

Chipsahoy I started to read your post but couldnt be bothered finsihing after the first sentence - couldnt be arsed discussing football with someone who is in the never question the status quo camp as it usually never ends as a football discussion as they try to get personal instead - usual ploy when you dont like the message, attack the messanger.

If you are happy with being out of the league half way through the season then so be it. Try not to swallow too much sand.

Thats exactly the point (one of them) Micls, but unfortunateyly some see it as treason to question the manager as he won the league last year - alas in footie the reality is that you are only as good as your last game.

this is a perfect example of complete and utter stupidity. when things go wrong for a manager you dont sack him, i think anyone with half a clue knows this. look at the way eriksson was booted out of citeh in england and the way most teams in the prem are chopping and changing managers at the first sign of danger. most people would agree that a manager should have a season or two to really show their worth. so far in doolins time this is our first ever bad season and in the time he's been with us its ouyr first time that we arent improving. wait till next year before you start talkin **** about gettin rid of him and stop listenin to those shouts on the terrace

and what if we win the setanta cup and fai cup????what if we progress next week to face dinamo kiev???? hardly be a bad season then.

Really? Getting through one round of the CL(which was expected) and maybe a cup is ok from a team with one of the best squads and defending champions?

A lot more easygoing up there than down here anyway.
The league is what shows how you've really played and is always the most important imo. Anything else is a bonus.

If you get knocked out of the FAI cup by Bohs and dont win the Setanta what will you think then?

Anyway I think he should be given a long contract extension similar to McDonnell tbh ;)

Well said Miscls (you are making a habit of this).

With the way we have been playing this season how do we think we will win a cup :eek: CL is a day out nothing more, the display in the firsthalf in Dalyer with one upfront may cost us yet - lets wait and see. Why on earth would we expect to win anything with the way we have been playing since the first league game this season (remember rovers, Byrne dropped !!!!), the decisions have cost us points.

We have a great squad of players, iMHO one of the best in the league and we are out of the league half way through the season (disgrace) - kick, bite and snarl all you want chips but this is the fact of the matter.

Finally show me where I stated he should be sacked?? typical jumping the gun from people who are too in awe of Doolin to question anything in the slightest, not even being out of the league HALF WAY THROUGH THE SEASON WITH ONE OF THE BEST SQUADS IN THE LEAGUE.

Lastly I hope we win the setanta to at least bring some smiles this season but to also give some cash back to help the directors who are bankrolling this massive squad.

I also thought Byrne at left back & Ollie in central midfield was bizarre.

In previous years ye had a solid defence but little sign of it this year. This year in particular there is no obvious game plan. For a full time squad I would query what they do in training as some of the link up play is very poor. I continue to be amazed by so many forwards in the squad & then sometimes play only one in starting team.

Overall ye look like team in serious decline & don't think a few new players will change it. Not getting into Europe would be a massive failure for such a squad.
