Kerr want's us to play Internationals in Croker, but will FIFA allow matches to be played on a 10% plastic pitch. Watched a bit of the minor hurley match everyone was slipping when trying to turns at speed. I think they bought a pig in the poke with that pitch.
I know some Dutch clubs play on pitches that are part plastic.
The vast majority of new pitches are the same. There's one in Tallaght - it just needs the stadium bit to be built around it. :)
Seriously though it's a bit misleading to call Croke Park's pitch 10% plastic. AFAIK there is some synthetic material mixed with the normal seed to make it more hardwearing. The problems in Croker are down to the new sliothar not the pitch.

Yeah the pitch is definitely a problem if you are not prepared. During the first Cork v Wexford match I never saw so many players slip and fall during a match. It was not so big a problem during the replay, so I guess a certain type of stud will mostly solve the problem.
When Ireland play there next year, Brian Kerrr will have done his homework on the pitch and studs, so I don't think it will be a problem.....;)

AFAIK Its 2% non grass which means the ground doesn't detiriote so quickly and its unlikely to turn to mush... A few clubs in England and Scotland are trying it this year as part of a UEFA experiment and if that works expect all pitches to follow

Sounds more suited to training grounds. Don't except top clubs to use plastic maybe the smaller clubs with less money. Mark my words the GAA will do U-Turn, it's a case of having too.
Estar - the new pitches are BETTER. There'll be no u-turn from the GAA. As Dodge pointed out clubs in the UK are beginning to introduce them. They're harder wearing which means less maintenance. Although a summer season may negate the benefits somewhat.
