D Drive problems.

D Drive problems.

I've been trying to save some pictures to disk from 'My pictures' on my Windows XP pro, but I've not been able to.

The problem is that my computer keeps telling me that my D Drive is full, and when I checked it, it was indeed full, with "Documents and Settings", "Program Files" and "Windows" taking up all of the 5 gigs available.

I'm confused as to why this would stop me from burning a disk, but it is.

Does anybody have any advice on how to fix this problem. I've always thought the D Drive should be left alone, but it's interfering with some pretty basic stuff. Can I move any files to the C Drive, where there's lots of space?

EDIT : Perhaps it would be a good idea for a mod to consolidate all the "computer problem" type threads into one big thread. I know I've started a few threads, as have others. I'd prefer to add to an existing thread, but there isn't a thread where I can do that.

Windows uses the D Drive to create an image of the disc, before burning it, so if the drive is full, it can't create the image.
You'll have to make space on the drive to burn it off, or change the temp directory it uses to a drive with enough space.
For a CD, it'll need about 750 - 800 MB, for a DVD, you'll need 4.7 GB

Right, thanks for that.

The file I want to burn is 369mb. Does that mean I need 369mb exactly, or the capacity od the cd, even if I'm not using all of the space.

Also, how do I do this

No problem, I was slightly incorrect that windows uses the Application Data folder in your Documents and Settings folder to create the image.

I'm not sure, but it's probably the whole size of the image, around 750MB

Yeah, just delete files. I usually clear out the Local Settings\temp directory first to free up space
The directory the cd is created in is dependant on the software you're using to burn the CD, what are you using?
