Cork City 3-0 Limerick 37
Nice to see Cork put out a very strong side. It showed us some respect, and gave the young fellas huge experience. Heres the match report from the EL site:
O'Callaghan double sees Rebels through
CORK City eased into the quarter-finals of the eircom League of Ireland Cup with a 3-0 win over First Division Limerick 37 at Turner's Cross.
Neal Horgan gave Cork the lead mid-way through the first half when he rattled home the loose ball after Liam Kearney's shot was blocked by Jimmy Fyffee and George O'Callaghan's effort had come back off the crossbar in the same attack.
Full-back Horgan kept a cool head in the box as he slid the ball low to the net to give the home team a deserved 24th minute lead.
Earlier Alan O'Connor twice went close to goals against a very defensive Limerick side who, like Cork, received a bye into the second round.
Dan Murray headed another chance wide early in the second half from Liam Kearney's corner and O'Callaghan's chip was held by Fyffe before the ex-Brighton and Ipswich Town man made it 2-0 with a low drive on 61 minutes from Denis Behan's lay-off.
O'Callaghan added a third on 69 minutes with another low drive after Behan again set up the chance.
