Galway United, with just two wins in their first eleven games so far this campaign, will aim to exact revenge on third-placed Kildare County at Terryland Park this evening for their opening day mauling at the hands of the Thoroughbreds.

United came so close to sealing a place in the Premier Division in last term’s end-of-season play-offs, and have struggled to match up to those exploits this time around, drawing eight of their eleven matches.

However, they have gone ten games unbeaten in the First Division since the 5-3 defeat to Kildare on the opening weekend of the season, a game in which they trailed 4-0 before a late revival.

The home side will cast their minds back to Kildare’s one and only visit to Terryland, back in January, when Galway eased their way to a 3-0 success.




In Alan Murphy, they also have the division’s most potent goalscorer – Murphy has netted nine times so far this season and is well on his way to eclipsing last season’s tally of 15. However, skipper Mark Herrick is a long-term injury victim.

Kildare have a crisis in defence for the trip into the west.

Richie Purdy and Alan Keely, the son of manager Dermot, are both unavailable through injury, meaning captain Ben Whelehan must revert from his midfield berth to mind the house.
