sean, i applaud the ideas and it's great to see a real passion from the fans for the club.
just an idea, it might be easier to organise a match of former players -v- local celebrities(i'm sure some of the rugby and gaa boys would chip in, maybe a td looking for votes) and maybe throw a few of the current team in, and market it as a fundraiser for the club. 95fm have a fairly young staff and i'm sure they'd be up for the exposure too.
you could do a souvenir programme where you get the same ex-players and celebs to submit their memories of the club and anecdotes. try and get everyone to wear blue in and get the press there too.
have a function that night, get Dolan's club to throw a function afterwards (they do it for the colleges), where you'd get the door receipts and they'd keep the bar, there are a good few local bands who'd supply music for a gig there, are any of the boys from woodstar or sutras (both good limerick bands) fans of the club (they are both contactable). i'm sure i saw one of the cranberries in a limerick top at a gig years ago too (although they probably won't play, unless one of them can kick a ball).
that would be simple and relatively easy to organise and if it was well marketed there might be a few quid there. just an offering
ok i think i went overbord a little ok your idea was grand but now how to arrange it? i guess the cranberries can play if they want can any of the keep goal? i guess a "all star" night is a good idea anyone know how to contact the former limerick greats? marcus tuite and billy hamilton where are they now by the way?
;) the cranberries fitzgerald stadium in kilarney on the 27th of july and i couldn't find a gig after that so maybe the three boys from the band would play (make it sound fun) if they've a few weeks at home after supporting the rolling stones on the european tour.
i'm not all that wise in this field but i'd start by getting local media on board and get a commitment from them that any event would be covered
95fm, the limerick leader, evening echo, irish examiner, rte via michael ryan from nationwide the type of community driven effort he'd be interested in
compile a list of sportspeople in limerick in the public eye due to their business -eg- clohessy owns the sinbin.
approach directly and detail to the problem, but especially the benefits, the possible exposure (remember the commitment from the media) and free advertising. you'd know the names that should be on the list better than i.
radio dj's are always looking for exposure. it's their nature, no one knows what they look like.;)
i'd get together with the other fans, assign people responsibility on who to contact and try and start it that way. keep brainstorming though, it's all positive and great to see.
