Looks the part alright to be fair. Good work by the lads
decent website ....another positive step
I like it, but just a few points of annoyance:
1. Its not very accessible. A lot of the stuff on it depends entirely on javascript so its useless for anyone blind thats using it, or indeed anyone accessing it on a phone or other mobile device. I'm fairly certain there are laws regarding this for large companies where provision needs to be made for accessibility in the exact same manner as physical accessibility, so if Arkaga have plans of going anywhere this needs to be sorted out. Related to this is that Google and other search engines dont use javascript so a lot of the stuff wont be seen by google which will make finding stuff on it, and other people happening to find information on it via google, harder.
2. I'd like to see a better effort put into the players section. Every player should have their own page and bio, and even mini-interview. every player's playing stats for the season should be available and available for comparison to other players, e.g. top 10 minutes-on-the-field etc. Not asking for Opta stats but it would seem much more professional than the brief snippets there now.
3. Priorities. Right now our squad page doesn't include Dave Mooney, Mulcahey or Sullivan, but for some reason includes George O'Callaghan who is assumed to be back in #10. I know the 2 lads doing it are mad into Georgie but I'd like to see them be a bit even handed for the sake of the club especially considering the number of posts to it Declan seems to be making rather than Eanna.
4. "Story posted by" line. It shouldn't be there: Everything on the site should be assumed to be the official word of Cork City FC. Also having the names there allows people to make wild accusations like the one directly above this ;)
5. Duplication: the menu on the black bar, and the few links at the very very top are almost identical. This seems like an oversight but it can't do much harm I suppose.
6. The heading/"Cork City FC" bit. I'll be honest, to me it looks manky, but then I deal with fonts and stuff a lot. Its just Cork City FC - The Official Website For the Rebel Army, in the default Arial font and with a 2 minute shadow job done behind it. It looks like no effort went into it at all tbh. And yes, we know its a website, and we have a fair idea that its official. theres no need to state this - as steve Krug says, if it serves no purpose, remove it. As an engineer would say, something isnt perfect when there is nothing left to add; its perfect when there is nothing left that can be taken away.
nice website
At least they finally got round to listing the current manager instead of Rico in the directory.
Was never even considered :p but I do a wee bit of web design and would care a lot about City having the best website in the league so probably the pickiest person out there. Pointing out a few flaws doesnt mean I dont think they did a great job., there are some great improvements and the RSS feed is very handy. Very close to being the best :)
Anyone know who did up the shop on the site. We are getting a full website designed but the compnay do not deal in secure shopping sites
It's powered by osCommerce and the payment gateway is Realex. Have a look here
