Mick Cooke and his team face into their 2nd last game of the season this Sunday afternoon at 3pm in St Coleman’s Park, against League title chaser’s Cobh Ramblers. Cobh have been consistently one of the best teams in the league this season and deservedly sit just one point behind table toppers Finn Harps. Harps failed to overcome Athlone Town on Friday night in Finn Park giving Cobh a real chance of stealing the First Division crown if they beat Mons on Sunday.
In the last meetings of these teams Cobh have come off the better on all three occasions beating United 1-2 and 4-0 at Kingspan Century Park and getting a 3-0 victory at home. As this is a crunch game for Cobh, it is expected that manager Stephen Henderson will be fielding a strong side to face United.
"We have a tough one ahead of us against Cobh on Sunday, with Finn Harps not getting the win last night, (Friday), Cobh have a real chance to take the First Division title and Stephen (Henderson) will grasp this chance with both hands” Manager Mick Cooke stated.
Cooke will have to plan without suspended Barry Burke and Kevin Williamson and will also be without long standing injured players, Peter D’arcy (groin), Jason McCartney (ankle) and Stephen Finnegan (knee). Goalie Danny Woods (shoulder) and striker Willie Doyle (knee) will both miss this game too.
Cooke said “I have a lot of players missing for this game but we have been plagued with injuries all season so are getting used to playing without a full squad to choose from.”
