"Pat Devlin....did he ever even play football"
OUCH!
Please explain for those of us away, who couldn't be arsed going out to watch it
Brady said (about Staunton):"Well he has Pat Devlin with him now", and then he said (almost under his breath) "Did he ever play football?"
Nobody answered it iirc.
It was in reference to the fact that Staunton has no experience around him. McDonald is a reserve team boss, Devlin only ever managed Bray. He was basically saying how's Staunton going to learn about managing an international side from them. It was pretty cold, but he had a point.
It was a classic piece of RTE TV !
In fairness though, i highly doubt Stan brought Devo in because of his coaching skills, more like his experience in football and how to deal with players etc... some kind of advisory role.
The same could be said for a few top managers and coaches thou - Jose M, did he ever play football? But Brady does make a valid point
Pat Devlin is a w a n k e r of the highest order. What the hell Staunton brought a rude little wannabe gangster muppet into the International set-up for I'll never know.
In fairness, it was probably a genuine question from Brady. He had probably never heard of Devlin before Staunton appointed him, and I doubt he's aware of his managerial record. Does Brady even know Bray have a team ? :p
Brady was dead right. what in the name of god is Devlin doing in the international set up? its all "jobs for the boys" if you ask me. Am I right in saying that Devlin was involved in getting Stan over to Liverpool when he was younger? (kenny dalglish connection)
Now its payback eh?then Devlin gets his "boys" into the team, Keogh, alan o'brien etc...
Ive nothing against Devlin, think he done a good job for Bray over the years, but has he seriously got enough qualifications to sit on a bench in International football??
The best bit of TV last nite was always going to be RTE's post match analysis.
I Honestly think Steve needs another 2 years,
I wouldn't let Devlin near any team I was involved with.
The "agency" lads playing for Ireland made a mockery of the national team; Alan o'Brien and peter Murphy being the most obvious
I guess the fact that I've never heard of Peter Murphy proves your point.
Devo may not be great but he's still got bags more exerience than Staunton but knowing the FAI they probably thought putting down the cones at a League Two side is more valuable experience than winning trophies and taking charge of European games.
And to answer Brady's question: Devo played for Bray in the eighties. I don't know for how long and it could very well have been before we entered the league.
Devo's working on it :D . Lapira's Irish passport (and possibly a cap) had more to do with him wanting to go on trial in Europe to get a gig with a club. As an EU citizen it will be easier for him to get a work permit than as a Yank. His mother I believe is Irish.
Devo was appointed as manager of the B side, I presume by the FAI/Delaney. How many games have the B Team played?
Devo was there as Delaney's eyes and ears.
When Stan goes he should go also. What the fcuk has he contributed to the set up.Can't see the new man keeping him, unless another Delaney stooge is appointed:mad:
There's nothing as pathetic as one pimp bitching like Richard Pryor about another pimp's pitch.
Is the B International role fulltime in so far any International football is fulltime?
Shows how much he is out of his depth when Staunton taking advise from Devlin.
