COOKE CHASES 5TH PLACE WITH TRIP TO KILKENNY
Monaghan United travel to Buckley Park, Kilkenny this Saturday evening to take on Kilkenny City in the FAI eircom League of Ireland First Division. This clash will give Mick Cooke’s team a chance to redeem themselves after last week’s shock defeat at home to Kildare County. United will be travelling with a depleted squad due to suspensions and injuries, but Mick is confident that his squad will get back on track and keep pushing for 5th place in the league.

Kick off at 8pm in Buckley Park.

United’s next home game sees them entertain League promotion hopefuls Finn Harps at Kingspan Century Park on Sunday 7th October with a 3pm kick off.

MONAGHAN UNITED LAUNCH THEIR ANNUAL DRAW
The Monaghan United FC Supporters Club Draw tickets with prizes of €12,250 up for grabs are now on sale. Tickets are priced at €100 and the first prize is €10,000. The draw is an important fundraiser for Monaghan United who are currently developing top class footballing facilities at their Kingspan Century Park base with the aim of providing football for the whole County.

Over the past few years, Monaghan United have provided football for so many children in the area and it is hoped that with more facilities even more local children can be catered for. Monaghan United’s juvenile teams have had a lot of success recently and the women’s and under 21’s teams have been a leading light in the Club. The Sunday morning mini leagues have approximately 150 children aged under 11 playing football every week. The senior team are sitting at mid table in the FAI eircom League of Ireland First Division.

All these aspects of the club cost money and as a community club Monaghan United need to turn to the community for support. This draw gives you an opportunity to support your local club as they build a footballing community for you to be proud of.

COUNCIL GIVE DEVELOPMENT OFFICER POSITION THE GO AHEAD
Monaghan County Council have given the green light to one of the most exciting developments in football by deciding to appoint a County Development Officer. This position, created in conjunction with the FAI is in an effort to develop grassroots football in the county. This will undoubtedly boost football in the county and give children of all ages a better opportunity to develop their love of the game and keep fit while having fun.

Monaghan United are delighted that the County Council and the FAI are going into partnership to help make football more accessible to anyone who wishes to play the game. Chairman of Monaghan United Jim McGlone said “I am delighted that the County Council have decided to go ahead and appoint a County Development Officer for the area and think that it augers well for the future of football in the County. I personally would like to thank all the members of the Council for supporting this venture.”

“We look forward to working closely with the Development Officer and feel that their appointment will benefit everyone in the community.”

MONAGHAN UNITED LOTTO JACKPOT WONThe Monaghan United Lotto Jackpot was won on Monday night and lucky Colm Grogan will pick up a cheque in the sum of €6,800. Congratulations Colm!

MONAGHAN UNITED U14’S GET SECOND WIN
Monaghan United Under 14’s secured their second win of the season with a 7-1 victory over seatown FC in Bellew Park on Sunday last. Seatown started strongly and controlled the early exchanges coming close on a couple of occasions. Colin Clerkin scored for United in the 14th minute after a cross from James Clarke. James got on the scoresheet in the 24th minute with a delightful lob over the advancing Seatown keeper. Seatown however refused to be overwhelmed and were rewarded on the stroke of half time with a goal following some confusion n the Monaghan defence.

United knuckled down in the second half and produced a more composed performance. Colin Clerkin scored his second after the restart with winger Shane Larkin netting in the 18th minute. James Clarke scored a penalty in the 21st minute after being fouled in the box. Elliot Maguire made it 6-1 after coming off the bench and Cian Byrne made it 7-1 with practially his first touch after switching from defence. Joint managers Kevin Maguire and Seamus Deeney have been happy with the commitment shown by all squad members so far and look forward to a successful season.

MONAGHAN UNDER 14’S “B” TEAM SUFFER DEFEAT
Monaghan United’s Under 14’s team in the first division of the Dundalk Schoolboy League suffered a second league defeat against a much stronger and more physical St Dominics side. The 4-0 defeat was a tough game for this small, young side but they are working well together and will face into their next game determined to get some points on the board.
