I know Tallaght has been pushing for it for a long time and would surely have a legitimate claim at this stage.
The transport and infrastructure developments in the last five years out there have been phenomenal.
Plus as of yesterday I'm buying a house out there. :)
Hindered by the fact its in Dublin City.
Cathedral is one of the criteria for a city alright yes.
Isn't everything with a postcode Dublin City? So Tallaght, Dublin 24, is Dublin City whereas Dean's Grange, Co Dublin isn't?
I thought that there would be odds quoted on Dundalk.. Strange.
i dont fancy waiting anything up to 8 yrs for a bet to come through.... could be 6 foot under by then, and your defo gonna lose the docket by then too :D
so what happens?, one day the goverment announce a ''new'' city?
Plus there is inflation to consider!
Although I've no interest in betting whatsoever, this interests me.
Unfortunately, it's more likely that we'll become an inner suburb of Dublin by 2015 instead of our own city, unless we embark on some bizarre Cork-like proclamation of independence and start a revolution with our very own Garden Army (it has a nice ring to it actually) and convince ourselves we're the bees knees, etc..
Letterkenny or Tralee would be a good one, though I haven't much sense about betting.
No Stu's right. Everything with a Dublin postcode is considered Dublin City.
Its only recently that SDCC and Fingal have branched out (and been given more power) but they're still considered Dublin City, even if Dublin City Council doesn't look after their roads etc
Kilkenny?
Can't access the list . Is Ennis on it.
Fair cop. Didn't realise Sligo had nearly 20,000 people in it. Thought it was arounf the 12k mark. Still a fair bit below Drogheda, Dundalk and Navan
