According to Spillane today, City had to turn down 2 friendlys with Bolton and Kilmarnock due to the lack of available suitable pitches at the moment.
Pity. It would have got 2 full houses id say, and not too many bar stoolers as they dont really "support" either.
IMO, it's not a pity in any way, shape or form. Those clubs were very unlikely to draw any sort of a decent crowd, and city would have been sitting on a big financial loss before the season even started. City are keeping a low profile in their build-up to the new season, and I for one am quite happy with that.Quote:

Shame, these are exactly the type of teams we should have friendlies against. They would provide a good test for City and would draw a big crowd.
The big factor is that people would come to the game and support CITY. I never ever want another game where people would support the opposition over City a la the Celtic game but that situation wouldn't arise against the likes of Bolton or Kilmarnock.

Which hopefully will involve levelling the pitch out. The slope in the pitch towards the Shed/Derrynane and the Shed/Donie Forde corners is absolutely unreal and a complete disgrace to the club.Quote:

Yes, the MFA own the ground, but increasingly, the practice is for City to make some monetary contribution toward any work done.
Christ it's only a shagging tiny slope! It's not like it's going to detract from the quality of play, is it??
If you'd ever played schoolboys football you'd see pitches with slopes the size of Patrick's Hill!

Slopes on a lot of pitches are central to the drainage of the pitch.
