The right decision financially considering our season is finished and knowing Dermie personally and can he is a good tactician and people manager so he deserves his chance after being assistant manager for the last year or so.
Very good back up as well in the form of Gordon Brett who has worked with the Irish Colleges team
Who is he? Local?
Yes a local. He used to manage a club called Monksland in the Roscommon leagues before being taken on as assistant manager last season.
Good positive choice in my opinion as he would know the players very well and I am sure along with Gordon are on the phone right now strengthening the squad
I think the committee said before that they have to get rid of players before
bringing anyone else in. Mickey exhausted the transfer budget in pre-season.
No Fenlon then no :D
hopefully he will get the basics right for next season..probably play some of the locals..from what i hear O Connor spent a lot on wages but didn`t get the results...thought he would have learnt his lesson..
Mad As Coote's can set up again now that O'Connor is gone can't they?
was at match v ramblers last week - very nice ground despite the name(lissywoolen). athlone played some nice football - was very impressed with rossi. mc tiernan although trying hard seems to have lost his best weapon (pace). was lennon managing last week? . if so i thought he was a bit slow in making subs.
i hope ye get back to former glories. good ground , good fanbase - a lot of teams in the top division are well behind athlone town.
We play in Athlone Town Stadium.......which just happens to be situated in a place called Lissywoollen. ;)
It's better than Lissywoollen! :eek::D
Lissywollen is a disgraceful name. How can the club ever hope to attract new supporters with that kind of carrying on? Could you image Millwall playing at Lissywollen?
Yeah and 'The new den' is such an classy name for a ground.
I'd prefer not to imagine Milwall playing in Athlone, might put me off my lunch.
The naming rights for the ground are up for grabs though but it was mentioned that the club are holding out for a proper deal.
