In Stan's defence....

was at the match yesterday in boston, and was more than a little pi$$ed off at how quickly the team made for the dressing room after the match.(probably a few cases of corona waiting for them!!). Would have been nice if they took a few minutes to maybe do a lap, or chat with the small number of irish fans that were there (most of them with young kids). Staunton took the time at half time and before the game to sign autographs, have a quick chat and was very friendly and approachable. Alan bennett and Alex Bruce were the only 2 that made a bit of an effort to acknowldge the support. I know its a meaningless friendly, but if the FAI are trying to market interest in the team in the states, they better wake fookin up and have the players make an effort to mingle with people that paid good money to see them.
*on a side note, that security guy (tony hickie) was a right miserable ****** -you'd think he was head of the war on terrorism by the looks of the puss on him..
Whether you like or dislike Staunton's management style, he comes across as an absolute gentleman.

well look at the shocking behaviour of the lot of them in san marino. we sang for ninety minutes despite the ****e in front of us and they ran down the tunnel like little girls because a few fans booed at the end after the ****ness was over. a few perfunctory claps from the safety of 70 yards away was about it.

i cant really blame them for not coming over to us in san marino , i wasnt exactly ready to cheer them to the rafters , they were right to celebrate though , they would be famous for all the wrong reasons had we drawn that game !!

i am really starting to warm to stan after being gutted he was appointed at the start, if he pulls a spectacular of 4 or 6 points in eastern europe then he more than deserves to finish out the 4 year term

To be fair in San Marino, when Keane came over and applauded the fans he got dogs abuse so a bit like Pat Rabbite, you are damned if you do and damned if you dont.

Ya I've had a few experiences of him (last sittin a couple of rows behind the dugout in Croker for the Slovakia match) and he seems an absolute waanker and your right you would think that he's guarding the Pope from an army of soldiers out to behead him.

He really put me in a bad mood that night as there were a few young kids down behind the dug out waving at the players and really just getting a view of the game and he told a couple of stewards to move them away, and also he was real thick to this old steward who was just doing his job and went out to the pitchside a little too early before the end for his liking.

I'm real glad you mentioned it because I thought I was the only one who noticed it - the kind of guy you would love to put in his place!

if its any consolation Zeno, it was a cool 95 degress at pitch side, and I could'nt help but s****** to see hom emerge for the second half with the head half scorched off him. I'm sure the geniuses at the FAI were so focused on the "security operation" (Bolivia in Boston is no doubt a category 1 - high risk game!!) that some sun factor was never packed away in the kit bags. I'd say he spent the flight home peeling scabs off his miserable puss.

My nephew was at the Ireland-Romania match with his friend (Keane's return?). After the match Fran Rooney (they had no idea who he was) took them into the dressing room and they spent the time walking around chatting to all the players. I can only imagine Delaney doing something similar.

I was in an area where there were very few Irish supporters at Giant's Stadium and by the final whistle literally all save one or two supporters had booked, and me and the fella I was with were there among ecuadorians holding out a tricolour and the players came over to our stand and applauded a bit, despite there only being ten or fewer supporters left
