Club Promotion

Now that we have a manager again we might get back to a bit of stability. We know that club officials view this forum so let's try and give them some ideas as to how to raise the club profile. Sinead Fraher is the Promotions officer so lets help her out by suggesting things that can help the club.

One thing I was thinking of was why not a Sligo Rovers affinity credit card? It may sound crazy(and could well be) but this is seriously possible. Take a look at this and this. Fair enough Liverpool and Celtic, unfortunately, have a massive fanbase in Ireland but I know for a fact that the gah cards haven't got a huge customer base. They're only a small thing but if the club tried to set this up it is a real possibilty. I know I'd certainly take one out as I'd love to have the Sligo Rovers crest on my credit card. Sligo Rovers really wouldn't have to do much as it's MBNA that manage the accounts. They could advertise the card locally-Ocean FM, Weekender/Champion, Programme, Website etc.

As I said, it may sound crazy but at the end of the day, this is a great way for the club to make a little extra profit without incurring too much hassle.

Yeah, you said it, a little profit. County GAA boards make about €300 a year on this.

Promotion officers are responsible for getting bums on seats but it is a good idea maybe something the fai could look at as a whole with each club having there own issue applications at grounds and you just tick your club

OK, Brewer, here it is. I call it the 45 club and there can be a multiple of such clubs depending on the ability of people to generate sales and collect money. The basic idea is that 45 people commit €5 per week and each member has a number (1 - 45). €225 per week is the take and €75 goes into prize fund with €150 going into club fund. The game is based on the bonus ball in the Lottery and whenever any member has that number three times they win the amount in the prize fund at that time. Taking the lotto results for 2006 as a guide the results would show that in a single club....
On 22nd February No 9 would have won €525
On 13th May No 34 would have won €825
On 26th August No 42 would have won €1200
On 11th October No 33 would have won €450
On 2nd December No 2 would have won €525
On 30th December No 44 would have won €300

The club would have received €7800

No reason why some 45 clubs cannot be €10 per week if the members want that. No reson why subs cannot be split between a few members if they want to pitch in a couple of euro a week. All that is needed is someone (Club promotions Officer?) to co-ordinate sales and to get the idea into factories, office etc. Ten such clubs would raise €78,000 for the Rovers.

And you idea is, SligoBrewer ?

This is the first decent thread we've had here in a long time, fair play Sligoman for starting it and avvenalaf that's a good idea too. Hopefully the club will take these ideas on board but if not then maybe ye should run/organise them yerselves. It's OUR club after all.

I looked into this a couple of years ago with a prominent supplier of credit cards based not too far from Sligo, thinking that the relatively local link would make a difference.

It doesn't - unless we can produce a verfiable database of 10,000 potential recruits to the scheme ourselves. As tis-smee suggests a deal for all clubs via the FAI would be the most sensible way of going about it - there's a realistic chance of getting the 10,000 names required. However, it could still take some time because of data protection issues etc.

Look at this. Stephen Paisley of St. Pat's went around the local area advertising there upcoming games. We could get a couple of our own players to do the same some evening. Postman Foy:D.

maybe the club could approach a betting premises to maybe open a stall/shop in the showgies..
ladbrokes, paddy powers etc..

i know it mightn't get done but it might add to the atmosphere and the whole experience if people were able to bet at the match ye know..

You need a licence im sure...

would ladbrokes, and paddy not already have one as theyd be running it?

ladbrokes have 4 shops in town now.. not that hard to get a license it seems

Probably have licence for trading at their own premises. But would need another one for external trading. Probably cost too much!
