Looks like Karel Bruckner is not the flavour of the month in the Czech Republic.

Now, do the math, how many times has the Czech Republic been to the World Cup? And to go further, who was their manager during all of qualifying and during the entire first tournament?

The Czech Republic national team is considered to be the sucessor of the Czechoslovakia national team - any achievements by the former belong to the latter - its not wholey ignorant or inaccurate to call them Czechoslovakia, just a bit dated. Anyone who knows boxing knows Larry Merchant always slips up with West Germany and no one says he needs to take a world history class.Quote:

Also -while it's down to common usage issue -I'm fairly sure most Czechs just call the country 'Czech'. Maybe the rest of us should give it a try too.
We don't say 'Republic of Ireland' all that often, nor 'Principality of Wales' nor 'Former Yugoslav Repulic of Macedonia'.
