Alternate Ireland Team

Who would be in it (this is people who are not in Staunton's squad...obviously this is a bit of an extensive squad)?
Goalkeeper: Paddy Kenny (Sheffield United), Colin Doyle (Birmingham City), Graham Stack (Leeds United), Conrad Logan (Leicester City), Dean Kiely (West Brom)
Defenders: Gary Doherty (Norwich), Andy O'Brien (Portsmouth), Gary Breen* (Wolverhampton), Derek Geary (Sheffield United), Damien Delaney (Hull City), Lewis Emanuel (Luton)
Midfielders: Liam Miller (Sunderland), Mark Kennedy (Crystal Palace), Matt Holland* (Charlton Athletic), Alan O'Brien (Newcastle), Martin Rowlands (QPR), Martin Devaney (Barnsley), Jay Tabb (Coventry), Kevin Maher (Luton)

Wait a tick...this line-up (with the exception of the defense) looks almost as good as the one Staunton's got. Anyone want to call up Roy Keane and ask him if he would manage this side against a Stan selected side :rolleyes:

Joe Murphy and Ian Morris at S<expletive>horpe. St Ledger would be in with a shout as well for defence. Possibly Bruce as well. Garvan, and Clarke to make up an Ipswich quartet with Lee.
Stephen McPhail, possibly Willo Flood from Cardiff. Leon Best from Southampton. Liam Lawrence at Stoke. Chris McCann and Alan Mahon from Burnley? Probably still to early for Cillian Sheridan from Celtic, although Jim O'Brien is impressing on loan at Dunfermline. How did Diarmuid O'Carroll get on out on loan? Big Ben Burgess, and (of course) Lee Trundle.

there are better players than this in the eircom league. how anyone could suggest graham stack be called up i dont know.

Gavin, they play in England, so must be good. Eircom League is full of amateurs. We'd undoubtedly be better off calling up the RTE panel rather than these two bit footballers. Sure one LOI team wins 37 nil every week.

I'm not a big an of naming every player we have in England, though it is nice to have the numbers and options we now have. However most of those named may get into the squad but not the first 11. I've put above 8 players who should be definite starters in everyone's teams. That leaves 3 spots to argue over - though O'Shea and Kilbane seem to have a special contract with the FAI so maybe there really is only 1.

Maybe what we should be talking about are impact subs? Ireland and Miller spring to mind.

If Alan Bennett gets a run in the Reading team he could become a viable option at centre half... Progress is a little slow though

Give him time, he's doing great stuff in the Reading reserves. At the start of next season Ill say he'll be starting for the first team.

I hear ya Gav, Stack is absolutely brutal.
Threads on here often give an inflated opinion of eL quality. This ain't one of them.
Devine and Barry Ryan are far better than the likes of Stack.

I'll give that to you, but Devaney and Rowlands are 2 top midfielders, and I can't understand how you can say they're not (watch some of their matches, all play goes through them)
