Match coverage

I made this suggestion last season, but anyway . . .

Eircom League weekly's coverage of Rovers is lamentable. It may be because of some nefarious bias against us. More likely it's due to them having a crap budget and Sligo being one of the more difficult places to get to from Dublin.

Instead of just whingeing repeatedly on these boards, we should do something about it. Shams and Galway, as far as I'm aware, spoonfeed them coverage (fair enough, even that didn't work this week for Galway).

Here's what I propose:

Getting equipment: Approach one of the major electronics retailers in Sligo (I don't know who they are since I haven't lived in Sligo for nearly 15 years). Ask them to provide high-quality camera equipment (either donated to the club or loaned every fortnight) in return for a hoarding and/or a matchday announcement.

Finding someone to film/edit the game: Either for a nominal fee or as a volunteer. There must be someone who could do it, and it would make a very nice line on your CV. Talk to the Champion and the Weekender. Make it known that we need equipment and someone to operate it.

I think getting us on the telly is very important. It adds a bit of glamour that could attract more fans to games, and gives extra exposure to advertisers/sponsors.

If any of you are in direct contact with anyone on the MC (or Sinead Fraher? Presumably this would interest her), bring this up with them. Push it. We shouldn't be one of the only clubs that are invisible every Monday night.

Could one of the colleges / schools get involved and do this as some sort of project? The old School did this for the GAA games and it worked ok.

this has been done for the last two seasons by a guy from omedia. has he stopped doing it ? have the club disposed of him ?

rovers have always been on EL weekly whenever they've provided the highlights. EL weekly dont send cameras around any ground(well outside dublin). highlights sent in by most/all clubs.

Its all fine and well suggesting people volunteer to do it but it does need to be of a very decent quality for tv.

I reckon what should be done is for a tv gantry to be placed over on the jinks avenue side. filming from the stand is terrible.

the club should absorb having games filmed as a normal running cost to ensure it's done professionaly. it would be a shame if they stopped doing this. i'm not sure how much of getting it done before was down to pressure from sean connor, so with him leaving so could having games filmed. i dont know how expensive it was but surely worth keeping up

Surely if the club brought back 'omedia' to film the games and send them on to TV3 they could then make a few quid by selling DVD's of the matches at to supporters and that might cover the costs.
