The Bird and I have a row over this every time a new issue of STIG comes out. I say that a joke can be funny in itself, independant of the number of people who get it and she argues that there's no point in producing and selling a magazine if the only people who get most of the jokes are the five people who write for it.

The hyper intelligent pigeon is wrong, incidentally, although I doubt you'd be telling it that for fear of restriction of certain duties. Such as carrying the disc to the printer's for to print the latest edition.
