IT/University courses

I'm looking to move back home in a few years and hopefully do Civil Engineering, in Sligo.

I'm just wondering does anyone, who has a clue about this, know if Sligo would be one of the more or less competitive institutions for Engineering courses?And if either, what kind of standard leaving cert grades would get you in (I've kind of got the gist on translating them to a level grades).As you can see, I've barely got my head around how the points system works (too algebraic for this time of night).

Any help would be greatfully received.

it wouldn't be the most popular course..or place..
fantastic facilities et al though in the it and the campus is very nice..

you are a mature student so as long as you have a levels or a leaving cert you should be able to do it.. i think..

edit! its 355 points or if you have a merit 2 in ordinary degree/diploma or equivalant your in..

That is true.By one year though (if I apply in two years):(

I went on the cao site again, and I think I worked out again what I need.I'll have to phone the IT though, just to make sure.

it is actually a pretty popular course

i have a few friends who do it and its actually a bit difficult[well for i.t. courses!]. the hours are very long as well.

i.t. sligo is pretty nice place....also you could boost the sligo rovers fans population by about 10%:p

i'm a qualified electrician but i'm sick of working in construction so i've applied to the university of limerick to do psychology and sociology,has anybody here studied this or know somebody who has?i'm 25 so i qualify as a mature student,i've heard that there's not much job prospects can anybody confirm?

I don't understand how ITs have huge hours and than expect students to study on top of that.:confused:

If you want to go into research and study for a PHD then this is the course for you. You could lecture or try and go on to be an educational psychologist etc. At 25, you should really have a purpose in what you want to do after you study as if you don't your wasting your time studying. If you can't see yourself donig anything in that ilk then there is no point in doing it. Have you looked at other courses available. law etc? These are much easier to understand the older you get!! Anyhow, everyone has a degree now, they are two a penny. Go and become a plumber, that's where the money is ;) and it's not exactly construction!!

You study in the evenings and on weekends.

you have no real break though.you'd clock up huge hours between study and lectures etc.Have 18 hours a week myself and think thats plenty.Couldn't imagine myself doing 25+ hours a week unless it was a masters/post grad etc.

Depends on the course really. If it's worth it, you'll do 40 hours, even 60 or more. I can't imagine being arsed doing a course that only took up half my normal working week!
